There wasnt one already so I figured I would get this started.

I was just reading where the par 3 8th hole has been pushed back to a whopping 288 yards. That is verging on ridiculous for major championship golf. I can understand that the open wants to be the hardest tournament in the world and they want you to understand the value of par but at the sacrafice of a legitimate shot of making birdie? Hopefully they will show some heart and water that green well so it will at least be receptive to balls coming in low and hot.

Here is a link to pairings on the first 2 days:

Half of the guys on tour can barely hit it 288.....unfair IMHO.

What are guys like Corey Pavin, a defending champ, supposed to do? Lay up?

Give me a break.

A lot of people think the winning score will be at least 10 over par

yeah, but you can hit it like 260 and it will get there....corey pavin prob can't get there, but tiger can't hit every fairway like corey pavin, so should he complain becasue the rough is high and the fairway is narrow....NO!

its like phil said, the longest par three now is like around 240, and the shortest par 4 is around 330, so theres close to 100 yards left out on holes, and the usga doesn't know to make them par 3 or 4.....i think its great, everyone has to play it, and i beleive its fair. this is the toughest test in golf, and it should be that way

it is going to be interesting to see the scoring average for the field on that hole. It seems as if it should play as the toughest hole on the course but really its anyone's guess.

My scoring avg predicition for 8: 3.87

well it (8th) may be the toughest hole on course, however the 17th is like somewhere between 315-330, so its drivable, tyring to perhaps make up the difference....now that holes scoring average might be around 3.7

^^ that was more of a watering issue than the course set up alone. they did not water to try to protect the course and screwed themselves over in the process

this is the description for hole 8

Quote :
"This extremely long par 3 requires a long iron or fairway wood to a fairly large green without much undulation. A bunker called (Sahara) some 100 yards long sits to the left of the green, making the tee shot very intimidating."

a 288 yd iron? that is a great drive. i'll take 2 if a such thing exists

The course seems to be playing pretty fair so far today. It is interesting to see hefty letting his left hand go off the club as he swings to try to prevent further damage to that tendon in his thumb.

I've looked all over trying to find individual scoring averages for the holes to see which ones are playing the toughest and havent been able to locate it, maybe one of you guys can find it.

it seems as if none of the guys at the top are going to be in contention for the weekend. Who the fuck are these guys. Furyk, Cabrera, and Janzen all have a chance but fucking nick dougherty! gimmie a break.

then he teed off and one ass hole does it at the top of his lungs

Who ya got?

I was pulling for Watson all day but that triple at 9 killed him

It's hard to see Tiger not winning although he's never come from behind in a major

I'm gonna say Tiger and Baddeley are neck and neck till the end with Tiger winning by 2 shots

But I wouldn't rule out anyone as far as +8 having a great round and winning it

Remember the playoff is 18 holes on Monday if it comes to that

Hopefully Bads holds on to win....I really like this young guy and he probably deserves to win. He is one of the so-called young guns supposed to have challenged Tiger along with Sergio. Howell, Rose, and others but none have really panned out to be as good as advertised.

i wouldnt mind seeing him finish second in a playoff

but i still want tiger to win

while i know it doesn't pertain to this thread per se' i dont understand how you can pull against tiger.

he's probably everything that's right with sports.

^^ that was such a stupid triple too.. he just got pissed and let loose and ended up losing 3 on a hold where he possibly, even with the first bad shot, saved bogey

I was sorta pulling for watson too. I wouldn't say I am a fan of Tiger per se, but I like it when he is in the last group on Sunday because it usually makes things exciting. Can't wait to watch today.

Is it just me, or is Tiger looking more muscular than normal.

Like, too damn muscular for a golfer.

He is wearing a red under armour-esque type shirt today. Kinda weird.

The guy is an athlete, plain and simple. It's been reported that he bench presses upwards of 350 lbs.

The thing that I think Cabrera has going for him is he is the fourth or third-to-last group instead of being in the last group, I think it takes some of that final day pressure off of him.

"Cabrera is feeling Tiger-vintage heat right now."

He's three back with five holes to play dude.

Can we just change the name of the PGA to "Tiger Woods and a bunch of other guys"?
