My 15 year old Crapsman finally gave up. Whats the best deal going this week? Anything I should stay away from? 6/13/2007 6:39:11 PM |

gg.
i would recommend not paying for another craftsman its seems no matter which model they all have 1 thing in common, they're all nearly impossible to set a car down slowly. thats all i can really say being that my dad has a cheap one and i thought my expensive one would fix the problem but it did not. So all i have are craftsman ones and i hate them both.

craftsman only has the lifetime warranty on their sockets and wrenches. Your jack was probably made in china. I would love to have a "real" floor jack, but they are expensive, big, and heavy. Having only a car-port, I have to put mine away or risk the wrath of the wife. So I'm happy with my $49 cheepie.

moparnum5 & I have been looking at the latest Sam's club floor jack ... I believe it's Michelin brand, which seems odd to me. Seems like a decent deal, but it's definitely not as cheap as the harbor freight or auto zone cheap-o specials. If you find a good deal on one, post it plz. Gotta get one in the near future to do some work on my POS car.

I'd say that if it lasted 15 years, that's pretty good.6/13/2007 7:45:17 PM |

i've got a ~15 year old blackhawk that's been heavily used and abused. still works fine. i've never even oiled the thing.
also have one of the cheap harbor freight deals that they put on sale for $40 sometimes. i've only had it about a year and it hasn't seen near the use, but it's doing fine so far. sure as hell can't beat the price.
honestly, unless you're really concerned about weight or relying on the thing for daily use or something i don't think you can beat the cheap ones from harbor freight/northern/sams/sears or wherever. they might only last a few years, but they've more than payed for themselves by then. 6/13/2007 8:18:13 PM |

Advance Auto on capital blvd (the one in the 3500 block) is selling floor jacks for like $25. I dunno much about them except that they are cheap (price-wise). It MIGHT be shitty (i dunno anything about them) but seems like a good deal to me.
nm... i found out what it was. Alltrade Tools 3pc. Jack/Stands Combo for $19.99 online price.

^^those 2-ton with removable handles are pain in the ass
they work allright but having to remove the handle every time to open the valve is annoying as hell. also when you drag it around by the handle it always falls off. the only advantage is they are compact 6/13/2007 8:40:48 PM |

get you a nice cheap aluminum one. it may only last half as long, but the weight reduction is worth it. Plus it has some scrap value when it turns back into, well, scrap. 6/13/2007 8:47:45 PM |

what are some good low-profile floor jacks that'll fit under sports cars that won't break the bank? 6/13/2007 8:57:20 PM |

alot of the aluminum ones are low profile. look at warehouse clubs, they probably have the best prices. 6/13/2007 8:58:43 PM |

^^ do not buy the sears low profile aluminum jack, that thing is an expensive piece of shit, if you want a good one and dont mind spending, lincoln and blackhawk are great ones, and i think the sams club ones are lincolns, or a good damn chinese copy 6/13/2007 9:24:50 PM |
