Any firefighters on tww?
I finally put some pics in my gallery. These are from the Sweat Farm Road fire near Waycross, GA. Burned around 90,000 acres. The entire GA Bay complex burned almost half a million acres, 300,000 of which were on the Okefenokee Wildlife Refuge (federal jurisdiction). One of the NC Incident Management Teams went down there to manage the fire near the end of last month. I was stuck working as status/checkin recorder so these pics came from other people on the team.
Quite impressive...

Fire at night is one of the coolest things to watch.
One day last year I worked all day. In the late afternoon my boss called and said they needed some help in Surry County. I drove for 5 hours and got there at 930pm and started digging handlines. It really sucked, but at the same time it was one of the coolest things to watch. Everything was pitch black except for near the fire. We spent the night digging line and watching everything burn. I sat there and watched a big oak go up in flames right next to the fire line. You could see every little glowing ember rising off of it and you wonder which one of those hundreds of embers is going to land behind you and start a new fire. 6/22/2007 4:48:29 PM |

I was a seasonal wildland firefighter in clay cherokee counties for a couple seasons. it was pretty incredible. hella hot, hard work, and I got hurt doing it, but loved it. pretty insane seeing flames come out 100' or more over thr trees, and you being right near it. 6/22/2007 4:57:34 PM |

Quote : | "EDINBURG, Texas - Firefighters who spent half an hour fighting a blaze in which 2,000 pounds of marijuana went up in smoke breathed so much of it that they would have failed a drug test, a fire chief said. ADVERTISEMENT
It took more than 35 firefighters, 1,000 gallons of water and five gallons of chemical suppressant to extinguish the warehouse blaze on Wednesday, Fire Chief Shawn Snider said.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents were investigating the origin of the drugs. The Hidalgo County fire marshal was investigating whether arson was the cause.
Snider said Thursday the firefighters were exposed to so much marijuana smoke that they would not be able to pass a drug test, despite wearing air packs to prevent them from inhaling toxic or hazardous fumes." |

This is one of my favorites. They closed down US 1 for a couple of days because the fire was burning over different parts of it. Since it was closed, the Chinooks were using it as a helispot.

I pumped some ground fire in Wayne County yesterday. They should make a Dirty Jobs episode on ground fire.
