Greatest, imo, but that's just my opinion
obviously, TOS and TNG hold special places, but for sheer character development and storylines DS9 is my favorite 6/28/2007 5:54:25 PM |

Had really great moments but didn't end nearly as well as TNG. I will give them credit for doing well with a harder task than TOS and TNG had in that they had an orbiting station that didn't "Seek out new life and new civilizations" and had to focus on interest through character development/drama instead of being able to wisk off to some new planet/ship/nebula and have a pew pew space battle all the time. 6/28/2007 6:47:07 PM |

Ds9 has everything, the great single episodes, the awesome story arc, ship battles, etc. The only real bad thing about it were the stupid happy episodes that the network made them do.
Name any other Star Trek episode that could compete with In the Pale Moonlight Favor the Bold/Sacrifice of Angels The Ship The Visitor

I think a Star Trek series from the Romulan point of view would be pretty neat. But I am afraid that it would be gayed up with too many pretty special effects and not enough substance. 6/29/2007 12:18:32 AM |

I was actually just thinking about this earlier today, before I saw this thread. And considering that I don't come to Entertainment much, this has to be divine providence
Anywho, I do think DS9 was the best series of the show. TNG was the most important, in that it took the show after a 20 year absence and roped in millions of fans and set the stage for DS9, Voyager, and the show of which we do not speak. But TNG also suffered from Gene Roddenberry's hard-line stance that the show be episodic and not have a overall story arc. He wanted the viewer to tune in every week and have the conflict resolved by the end of the show (allowing for the occasional two-parter). Since he died 2 years before DS9 came on the air, he obviously didn't have much of a say in it.
DS9 tried to be episodic for a few seasons, but then the producers realized they were sitting on a gold mine with the Dominion War story arc. IMO, the Dominion storyline, which really got underway in season 4, was what took the show from good to great.
TNG was a great show, and had two of the best and most interesting characters in all of Star Trek in Picard and Data, but I agree with bbehe that it was too nice a lot of the time. They held to Federation principles a little too much sometimes, to the point that it wasn't even realistic in many episodes. DS9 realized that sometimes the rules would have to be broken in order to win the war and save humanity.
Voyager has won me over in recent years in syndication. It got significantly better in the second half of its 7-year run. Some of the shows from the first few seasons of Voyager were painful to watch. But when they started encountering the Borg and brought Seven of Nine (an interesting character for multiple reasons ) the show really took off. 6/29/2007 1:32:42 PM |

^agreed on almost everything. I'm actually recording all of the voyager episodes right now (since I work until late m-f) and I can watch them later when I am only working half the hours I do right now, and completely bored off my ass. 6/29/2007 1:54:55 PM |

DS9 is a darker series I feel.
TNG is a simpler series, where you don't have to follow each episode.
I like both. DS9 is addicting if you can get into that stuff. 6/29/2007 3:03:18 PM |

I was obviously joking when I said enterprise was the best, but some of you don't seem to be joking about Voyager being better than awful.
Voyager = all of the bad parts of TNG - good parts of TNG

^how, yes, but she wanted out. They did a disservice to her character all throughout s6 and there were several episodes where she wasn't even in it. It was such a "oh you want out? we're going to fuck with you for most of the episodes and make you seem weak and helpless." 3/23/2020 11:16:52 AM |
