This will probably just make you laugh:
http://www.cnn.com/2007/SHOWBIZ/TV/06/29/people.isaiahwashington.ap/index.html
Quote :
""Grey's Anatomy" star Isaiah Washington said racism was a factor in his firing from the hit ABC series after he twice used an anti-gay slur.

Washington, who initially used the epithet during an onset clash with a co-star, told Newsweek magazine that "someone heard the booming voice of a black man and got really scared and that was the beginning of the end for me."

He tried to make amends by expressing remorse and volunteering to enter a counseling program to understand how the confrontation got out of hand, he told Newsweek.

"My mistake was believing that I would get the support from my network and all of my cast mates across the board. My mistake was believing I could correct a wrong with honesty and sincerity," he said in the interview posted online Thursday.

"My mistake was thinking black people get second chances. I was wrong on all fronts," he said.

His unwillingness to act like a submissive black at work was part of the problem, Washington said.

"Well, it didn't help me on the set that I was a black man who wasn't a mush-mouth Negro walking around with his head in his hands all the time. I didn't speak like I'd just left the plantation and that can be a problem for people sometime," he said.

"I had a person in human resources tell me after this thing played out that 'some people' were afraid of me around the studio. I asked her why, because I'm a 6-foot-1, black man with dark skin and who doesn't go around saying 'Yessah, massa sir' and 'No sir, massa' to everyone?

"It's nuts when your presence alone can just scare people, and that made me a prime candidate to take the heat in a dysfunctional family," he said.

ABC declined comment Thursday. In its one public statement regarding Washington, issued in January, the network said his actions were "unacceptable."

Washington, who used the slur against co-star T.R. Knight during a confrontation with Patrick Dempsey, repeated the word backstage at the Golden Globes in January in denying the first incident. A public apology to Knight and others followed."

So a white guy says something racist/sexist/etc (i.e. somehow politically incorrect or insensitive) and gets fired and its justice. It happens to a black guy... lets play the race card to try to get out of it. Where are Sharpton and Jackson on this one? Imus didn't get a second chance.

Yeah but apparently since he's black he can use a slur in public and shouldn't get fired. It's just whitey trying to keep him down. There just doesn't seem to be the public outcry as when a white guy did it.

i agree 100% there are double standards for race, etc

but he still got fired...so what if he's complaining about it

i mean i dont think him or imus shouldve been fired

i guess this just shows that gays rank higher than blacks on the 2007 'minority group rankings for political correctness'

Why does anyone care? Who gives a fuck what some shitty TV actor said or didn't say. His job is to play a role on TV and entertain people.

Imus originally was not going to get fired, until the advertisers pulled ads.

It seems Washington was just fired outright. And I don't think Washington's comments were aired live, but according to Wikipedia he grabbed someone by the throat: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isaiah_Washington#Grey.27s_Anatomy_controversy Which is grounds for firing, I think, on its own. And regarding faggot, Washington asked for help with his issues with gays, but Imus did not ask for help regarding blacks.

I don't really see how their situations are meaningfully similar.

he "asked for help" to try and keep his job

he basically went to his "homosexual sensitivity" meetings for nothing

Not the original incident (with the throat grabbing) but when he publicly denied it happened later, he used the word on TV Genius.

This is it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4nZyCxZa1ik

And by the way, I think the firings are stupid too. But if you do it for one person, you kind of have to do it for everybody.

i love how he says he used it twice but didn't get a second chance. my guess is the second chance came after the first instance. and racism? he was using anti-gay slurs. so he was being a bigot and wants to cry racism. that's hilarious

The dude is just flailing his arms wasting his time now. For one thing, they let him continue on the show until the end of the season and didn't renew his contract, which they can do no matter what he's done. That's quite different from Imus' firing.

He also claims Patrick Dempsey, the guy he supposedly choked, supports him:
http://community.tvguide.com/blog-entry/TVGuide-News-Blog/Todays-News/Isaiah-Washington-Says/800017561

He claims TR Knight (the guy he called faggot) is the real problem:
http://community.tvguide.com/blog-entry/TVGuide-News-Blog/Todays-News/Isaiah-Washington-Greys/800017353

The test to see if he was the victim of racism is to look at the situation and see if you think it would be fair to fire a white man who did the same things. The answer is obvious.

i wonder why people are scared or nervous around you. it could be that you are a dark skinned, tall man. or...or...it could be that people get uncomfortable around people who make blatantly hateful comments and grab others by the throat. one or the other.

My experience with today's media tell's me a lot of people are. Being thought of as a "bad boy" i.e. troublemaker, asshole, etc, is more of an asset in today's entertainment industry than being viewed as a flawless professional.
