So my car i think needs a new tranny, thinkign of buying a beater truck instead of putting a tranny in the car so i can carry around my bike, and potentailly other toys (since im gonna have a garage now)

Think its possible know of any, any reccomendations of what to look for.

I'd look at 76-79 ford trucks. yeah, they're gas hogs, but you can get a 4x4 one for under $1000 if you look around. cut the rust out of the fenders, rattle can it, and enjoy. downside 8mpg.

there is a place on the corner of wall rd and US1 in wake forest that rents uhaul trucks, they have one of the old early 90s toyotas with the box on the back for sale that would make a nice secure, enclosed place to transport a bike or two. dont know the price.

i've bought a couple of isuzu pups for the farm for around 1.5-2k each great little trucks, easy to work on and surprisingly good off road. one has some beefy off-road tires and will float over any kind of mud/bog

i don't roll up to raliegh area much but if your down in the randolph county/lexingtinton area look they are boat loads of trucks for sale, most real nice that the owners foolishly bought and now can't afford to fuel. In lexington on hwy 8 there are about 10 used car places in about 3 miles slammed w/ pickups and the like.

if your going to be spending that much on a truck, then I'd think you'd be better off getting something with a 5-speed. I wouldn't trust an auto tranny in that price range.

just my $.02

If you're gonna get a 5-speed truck, pay attention to the condition of the clutch! And if it's a fullsize truck, later model Fords come with a Mazda tranny, which isn't the toughest tranny in the world, especially if you're hauling a heavy load.

Older 3-speed automatics are usually reliable as hell if they've been maintained. You can tell a lot by just driving one.

I was thinking maybe I ought to part with the SuperDodge, but I doubt you'd want to give me the 2200 bux (minimum) I'd want for it, especially the way it looks. And I don't really want to sell it. Cummins power for the win.

i got me a cheap semi reliable truck that spits spark plugs right out if you hold it wide open lolz. but its awesome for hauling bikes so far, getting about 22 mpg average but i think it will get better when i get to replacing 02 sensor.
