Searched and there wasn't really anything specfic. I've only gone to Wrightsville and I wanted to know other good beaches around the state.
Best Beach in North Carolina to:
1) Relax and be secluded 2) Drink and Party 3) Best Scenery 4) Most romantic (meaning good scenery and good nearby nighttime entertainment) 5) Surf 6) Your favorite North Carolina beach 7/6/2007 8:16:11 AM |

It's nice for that but the waves are pretty lame a lot of the time, so Emerald Isle is good for 1,3 at least not 5 though 7/6/2007 8:56:23 AM |

I would say Carteret County beaches are pretty nice. Stay in Atlantic Beach, there are plenty of people there surfing. Good fishing. Visit the Beaufort and Morehead City waterfront. Also head down to Emerald Isle to get that nice calm surf. Or if you want a not so crowed beach hit salter path right between Atlantic Beach and Emerald Isle. There is a public beach access there, and most people who visit there are staying in a place with their own private access so less touristy 7/6/2007 9:03:27 AM |

1, 3, and 6 are all the same to me, although there's no lodging (maybe camping?): the beaches along Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge.
2 and 5 - not something I would know about. If we're looking to party, we have friends come out to the beach with us, and we have moderate partying at the house we've rented.
4 - I lump it in with 1, 3 and 6. Neither I nor my boyfriend need or want external activities to entertain us. Fishing, watching birds, girls on the beach, and playing in the sand are more than enough to please us. No need for candles and wine to make something 'romantic'
Emerald Isle is where my family takes the rare beach vacation, Nags Head/Kitty Hawk is typically where my bf and I go for vacations, but next time we go for a beach vacation, we've decided to hit up the southern OBX, and that may be a permanent change.
But my very favorite beaches are those along the various nat'l parks/seashores/wildlife refuges, because they aren't all built up to hell. It's quiet

What is the best Wilmington area beach?
I am only going to be able to take a day trip to the beach this weekend and the Wilmington area is probably the best bet. I get to go to the OBX in 2 weeks though 7/6/2007 10:37:36 AM |

Wrightsville had some very nice wave action last time I was there, but it was super crowded, which it almost always is. But hey, that drops my shark attack probablility to almost nil with that many people there. It gets a little eerie places like Emerald where you're literally the only person out in the water and birds are diving for fish and stuff around you... 7/6/2007 11:23:29 AM |

Sunset Beach. The bridge just makes it the best, and it's the chillest one aside from Figure 8.
Myrtle Beach is also 15 min away, and Ocean Isle is 5, so variety is there if you need it: bars, shopping, airport, etc. 7/6/2007 6:58:54 PM |

^^^Carolina Beach is Wrightsville Beach's red-headed step brother. Stick with Wrightsville. It's hands down the best beach in the state. 7/7/2007 5:37:46 AM |

If you require all of that, I'd suggest sucking it up and heading to Central America, cause it sure ain't here. 7/7/2007 6:14:49 AM |

If you go a little ways south of Carolina Beach to the Kure Beach/Fort Fisher area. There is some really non-crowded beach there. And its near the fort fish aquriaum if you want to park there... with changing rooms & a rinsing hoses at the beach access. No life guard on duty in the area. The trees were nice though, and there was alot of open sandy area.
I though Bath, NC was beautiful. It has the whole historical aspect with being NC’s oldest town. And the fun pirate side too being a Blackbeard hang out, and apparently he married a local girl there.
And its beside Washington NC which has some of the pirate stuff too, and has an Estuarium with the kind of creatures that live where salt & fresh water come together.
I stayed at a Days Inn with decent Accommodations across the screet from this place, with a combination of deals that were going on, for about $10 a night. A Bath/Washington trip isn't exactly a beach trip, but its still plenty of water and alot cheaper. 7/7/2007 2:24:26 PM |
