Even when the game is in a National League park, do the pitchers ever hit if they only pitch 2-3 innings, with all stars as pinch hitters on the bench?

I don't necessarily like the NL lineup (especially with Utley hitting 8th - wtf?? Wright or Martin should hit 8th), but hitting Bonds 2nd is not a bad move. Bonds is as patient a hitter as there is so if Reyes is on, he gets chances to steal and if the AL walks Bonds, it sets up the middle of the order to have RBI chances.

I personally would have set the NL lineup like this:

1. Reyes
2. Utley
3. Bonds
4. Fielder
5. Griffey
6. Beltran
7. Wright
8. Martin
9. Peavy

Utley hitting 8th doesn't matter much. Unless the NL is killing it the pitcher won't hit anyway so it's not like he is going to be hurt by protection and he can set up the top of the order.

In a perfect world I'd probably have it

Reyes
Beltran
Bonds
Griffey
Utley
Wright
Fielder
Martin
Pinch hitter

Beltran is a 2 hitter naturally and Bonds is an OBP machine 3rd with Griffey to clean up. Then Utley to start it again (high OBP guy) with Wright and Fielder to drive them in.. then Martin and the pinch hitter.

I like the NLs chances this year. I think Reyes not being in there last year cost them the game since Beltran killed it but no one was ever on base... oh and of course Billy Wagner needs to close, not Hoffman.

why not just say

1-Reyes
2-Martin
3-Beltran
4-Wright
5-Delgado
6-Green
etc

Why would I say that. I'm being fair... Lets go through it.

1) Reyes - the best leadoff hitter in baseball. Period.
2) Beltran - the speed/power combo I like in the 2 spot. Can bunt, beat out an infield hit, hit behind the runner.
3) Bonds - I like the high OBP/power guy 3 in my lineup.
4) Griffey - Power but not such a high average anymore. Professional player.
5) Utley - I like a high OBP guy who can drive in runs 5th. I'd like a bit more speed but here but he fits.
6) Wright - again, a high OBP guy who hits well with RISP.
7) Fielder - K's a lot so in a stacked lineup I like him farther down. Also, he gets two high OBP guys in front of him.
8) Martin - he's a catcher.

he's a catcher with double digit steals and homers

i would put Reyes in the leadoff and then after that it doesnt really matter...its a bunch of all stars

hah, just realized this was on Fox rather than ESPN

And I wondered why the guys on PTI didn't say "All-Star game" as "What are you watching tonight?"

Lemme guess, this will end up being the Boise State game all over again -- as in, it won't appear at all on SportsCenter

Why do they continue to use the phrase "this time it counts"? It's "counted" for five years now.

Jesus Christ this is brutal. I have a good bit of money on the AL. Talk about fucking chocking. God damn, all they have to do is get a ground out. Fly out, something. Its not that fucking hard.

Because he's hitting pretty decently. Over 300 with 50+ R, 40+ RBIs

Ichiro was MVP

I'm pissed I didn't get to watch because I was at work...

but that looked like one hell of a game.

It's amazing that Albert Pujols and Michael Young were the only two not to play this year. I'm seriously questioning what LaRussa was thinking not playing his own player, Pujols, in the last inning with two outs and the bases juiced. He's one of the most dangerous hitters in the game, and he's on YOUR TEAM. Young was the MVP of last year's contest, so I'm just as shocked to see him not get any action.

LaRussa is clearly trying to get Pujols fired up... LaRussa is an ass but he does this shit and he wins.

I agree about Young. Leyland should have at least put him out there.

Fuck Tony Larussa. I cannot believe he let O-Dog and Rowand hit in those situations in the bottom of the 9th with Pujols on the bench. God I hate that piece of shit. I don't care if he was trying to get Pujols upset or not, but he needs to play to freaking win the game. With how out of control K-Rod was last night, I bet Pujols could have atleast drawn a walk to tie the game.

Also GG to Billy Wagner for fucking up the NL chances of winning. That pitch V-Mart hit looked like a BP fastball. The other Met players played well though - Reyes was money.

With the talented teams he has had over the years in both Oakland and St. Louis he DEFINITELY should have more than 2 World Series wins. I mean for fucks sake Joe Torre has 4 and we all know he is a shitty manager.

Or Chris Young. Or Cordero. Or Hoffman last year. I wouldn't complain too much considering the Mets offensive guys were pretty much the only NL players to show up last year and through 8 innings this year. (until the 9th inning Mets had scored the only runs for the NL the last 2 years)
