My driver's side lock recently was vandalized by some low life. Knocked the lock into the door panel. Damaged the door handle. Door "rod" is bent. Lock is maimed. Went to dealerstealership, and they quoted me $325.00 for parts and repairs. Parts include new lock assembly, new rod, new door handle, new paint on door handle.

My question: You guys know any places that may charge less for parts and labor? Or am I stuck with the dealership?

I was thinking I could install the lock assembly myself. I'm sure it's not too hard to install the rod. And the door handle, I may be able to find from the junk yard. Not sure how many blue WRX's there are at our local junk yards. Suggestions?

you could try a regular body shop. they could do it. installing a lock cylinder/handle isn't too hard. some vehicles are a little tight with the inner skin/bracing in the way, but that's it. try ebay for the handle.

i don't think that's really a bad price at all from the dealer though.

Pull the door panel, stop by any parts store and get the lock. If the metal on the door is punched you may have to have it reformed with a die/press (tool trucks sell these) If the door handle is fucked then that will probally be a dealership only part. I would have to imagine the the rod is repairable. You best bet is to take it to Raleigh auto Body works and ask for Tracy. Ill take a look @ it if you bring it over to N.Raleigh

why would the dealer cover vandalism at no cost? maybe no cost to the owner after insurance...

yeah, i guess so if it looks like it just fell in and that's a common issue. the other damage might give it away though.
