Rep. Almond resigned yesterday." |

At least he resigned, what about your own culture of corruption ?
Murtha, Jefferson, Reed,...
Still waiting for them to resign. While I don't condone Almond's behaviour obviously I think it's pretty funny that the democrats have done basically zero to clean up their own house. Also, these democrats have been involved in dealings which suggest they are using government power to secure monetary gain for themselves or their friends. In my book this is just as bad, and in a pragmatic sense a lot worse than the alleged actions of this Almond character. I feel the same about Clinton, I am much more annoyed by his shady dealings with the Chinese, or the last minute pardons which made his library $$$ than his sexual wanderings.
[ I have just commented briefly on national level democrat corruption, if you know more about state government I suspect NC democrat politics is way more corrupt, Black being the most obvious example, not of personal corruption but rather systematic corruption that is party-wide]

i agree about Jefferson. it pisses me off, too.
but what has Murtha or Reed done to warrant a resignation? 7/18/2007 6:25:09 PM |

^well I'm happy to hear that. I don't think we should put up with it no matter what the politics of the individual happens to be. I mean if Ron Paul was corrupt we give him the boot just the same.
Murtha was an a co-conspirator in a big congressional scandal a few years back, let me see if I can find a link or two ,
http://www.powerpundit.com/archive/003324the_forgotten_murtha_scandal.php http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,217305,00.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abscam
this was pretty big news but I was to busy playing in the sandbox to remember.
Harry Reed has a few that I've heard of, I think there is also some questionable nepotism, but that's pretty much across the whole congress so I'll just mention these,
Quote : | "Las Vegas land deal
Harry Reid's member interest in limited liability company (LLC) was allocated $1.1 million of the gross proceeds attributable to the sale of a parcel of land. In 1998, Reid bought a plot of land for $400,000, fair market value at the time. One of the sellers was a developer who arranged a land swap that Reid supported. In 2001, he transferred title of the land to the LLC. When the LLC sold the land in an arm's length transaction in 2004, Reid made a profit.[42]
The LLC was formed by long-time friend and former casino attorney Jay Brown,[42][6]. Reid's failure to disclose the change in the form of his asset holdings upon contribution to the LLC violates Senate rules according to former Federal Election Commission overseer Kent Cooper. However, Reid did comply in disclosing the event of the 2004 sale, albeit as though he held the property in his individual name. In addition, Brown paid a small portion of Reid's taxes on the ownership stake, which constitutes basis for Brown and is corrected for at the land's sale resulting in higher taxes for Reid. Since Reid continued to own the land inside the LLC with the same basis he held it before contribution, he continued to report to Congress that he owned the land for 3 years after he transferred title to the LLC he partially owned.[42][43] Reid's staff stated that he did not initially disclose the transfer of the land to the LLC because this transfer was not a change of ownership, but was simply Reid owning the land through an LLC instead of as an individual.
Reid directed his staff to amend the 2001 financial disclosure forms to reflect the transfer of title to the LLC. He also disclosed two other land transactions on the amended reports.[44]" |
And the "republican scandal" also involved Harry,
Quote : | "Contacts from Jack Abramoff's lobbying firm
See also: Jack Abramoff Indian lobbying scandal
In the wake of the 2006 corruption conviction of lobbyist Jack Abramoff, media criticism led over four dozen Congressmen, as well as President Bush, to return campaign donations associated with Abramoff.[32] Reid did not receive any contributions from Abramoff, but Reid had contact with clients and lobbying partners of Abramoff,[33] and Reid's campaign received over $60,000 in contributions from these groups, including about $50,000 from Native American gaming interests.[34] Several times, Native American tribes that were clients of Jack Abramoff donated money to Reid after Reid's votes produced favorable results for the tribes. According to an Associated Press article, "Reid collected donations around the time of each action. Ethics rules require senators to avoid even the appearance of a conflict of interest in collecting contributions around the times they take official acts benefiting donors."[35] Among dozens of contacts between Abramoff's lobbying team and Reid's office, were several discussions about a bill to raise the minimum wage of the Northern Mariana Islands.[36][37] Reid supported the bill, which Abramoff's clients opposed.
Reid said that the contributions and contacts were legal and his actions were proper. He also described the Abramoff affair as "a Republican scandal," referring to Abramoff's felony conviction for making illegal contributions to Republican Congressman Bob Ney and his close affiliation with the Republican K Street Project.[38] A spokesman said that Reid had never met Abramoff personally, that neither Reid nor his campaign has ever received money directly from Abramoff, and that his legislative work was done on behalf of his Nevadan constituents." |
from what I've heard this is just scratching the surface with Reed.

Quote : | "Seems to me that a lot of republicans have such unhealthy repressed feelings about sex that at one point they can't hold back anymore and start doing something stupid. We had Mark Foley and his fondling of congressional pages and we just had Senator David Vitter, (R-LA), getting in trouble because he frequented a prostitute in Washington DC. It's also a public secret that there are several high ranking republicans consistently pushing an anti-gay agenda while they are secretly gay themselves. Just a matter of time until those skeletons fall out of the closet (no pun intended).
It is also interesting to know that Rep. Almond is a vice chairman of the House committee on children, youth and families. Nice!
Is it just a matter of time until we find Coy Privette or Robin Hayes with their pants around their ankles?
