Anyone see any big moves happening?

Mark Teixeira is by far the biggest name circling the rumor mill. He's also on my fantasy team. Interested teams are Dodgers, Angels, Atlanta and Boston. The Yankees, Baltimore and San Francisco have also been mentioned.

My question is: If he's traded to an NL squad, do I bench him and play him as my backup 1B since he'll have very little experience hitting against the pitchers he will face?

I just want the Mariners to finally make a move. If they get a decent pitcher to add to their stuggling rotation then I can see them winning the west.

I've heard talks of trade for Dontrelle Willis and Scott Olsen.

I don't think Dontrelle will leave Florida. The Marlins want way too much for the mediocrity he produces. He would be a good 3rd or 4th starter, but not with his price tag.

Some TV announcers a couple of games ago said the Braves may go after Millwood. Bringing him back makes sense seeing that he began his career as a Brave and he is a horse which the Braves need since you never know how many innings you will get out of James, Davies, Carlye, Reyes.

I don't know about the M's winning the west. They need to figure out how to win a game first. Aren't they on a 5 or 6 game slide right now? The Angels play good ball pretty consistently. They will be hard to overtake. Teixeira to the Braves would be great. Get grandpa Franco off the field.

with 18 less homeruns and 0 stolen bases. Andruw is still a great defensive player. Franco can't even claim that.

5 game slide but luckily the Angels have done just as bad. Before the 5 game slide, the M's were only down 1 game. Now they are down 2.5 games in the west.

If they pick up another quality starter then there is a possibility of them winning the west. I was just reading about a Sexson for Matt Morris deal. I think this deal would be somewhat stupid on both parts even though I'd rather have Morris over Sexson at this point. The M's would be getting a solid starter but they would have to eat a bunch of Sexson's ridiculous salary to move him.

Some rumors starting to fly.

Grudzielanek to the Mets? Probably only would take a mid-level prospect or two.

Texeira/Millwood to Atlanta? It would take Salty, Andrus, + for that likely from what I've read.

Gagne to Detroit?

-----

Today Scott Linebrink was traded to MIL for 3 minor leaguers. He hasn't been that great anyway recently though...

i'd be fine with sending Garland to ATL in exchange for Ed-gah

he isn't the same Ed-gah that he was with the Cards, but hell, I think i'm a better hitting shortstop than Juan "Mendoza" Uribe

Yeah, they can't but they need to.

THe heads keep saying they need another right handed bat but I just hate to fuck up the roster that is doing so well top to bottom.

I just heard the Braves offered Salty, Andrus and some AA pitcher named Harrison for Texeira by himself.

You better be god damn sure you are going to sign him long term after '08 if you make that trade... I still don't think it's enough to beat a healthy Mets team...

If you're asking me then yes.

If you're asking do I think they'll make a deal for a 2B then I think that either Grudzielanek or Luis Castillo (who you're familiar with I'm sure) will be the everyday 2B by Aug 1...

You said it. It's a shit trade in my opinion. Shores up first base problems, but still leaves the horrible pitching issue.

I heard Buster Olney say that there is a lot of interest in Igawa, which is strange, seeing as how he has sucked so bad. I'd deal him in a second.

I wouldnt mind if the Yanks picked up Gagne to set up for Rivera.

from atlantabraves.com

Quote :
"But one Major League scout confirmed the Braves and Rangers are still discussing a trade that would be headlined with Teixeira and almost definitely include Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Atlanta's 22-year-old switch-hitting catcher who stands as one of the most attractive prospects on the trade market.

Another National League scout said the Braves might be discussing also including a young pitching prospect (possibly Jo-Jo Reyes) and Elvis Andrus, the 18-year-old phenom shortstop who is currently experiencing the struggles of the maturation process with Class A Myrtle Beach. "

I thought the mess fan up there was being silly an calling Andruw, Andrus...

Anyways.. I hate to get rid of Salty but we do have a logjam at 1B now that Julio is back. I would rather just throw Thorman in a deal and keep Salty as backup catcher/sometimes 1B. We need to go after some pitching if we're going to trade some of our best young guys.

Almost all players struggle at Myrtle Beach. The stadium is the best pitcher's park in all of pro baseball.

No they aren't. The plan this past spring was to move him to a starter because it is easier on the arm (instead of the constant warming up/tossing/throwing 3-5 times a week in a game). However, they scrapped that when Papelbon said he really feels like he is a closer now and both the team and him feel his career will be as a closer.

I doubt he ever goes back to being a starter.
