^^ Which song by the usual suspects are you referring to, God? Although I've seen the movie that band is named after, I don't know much about the band.

i actually like btbam's paul waggoner's recording of the blackened cover better than the original. but gotta credit metallica for writing the original for sure

get that crap out of here. i dont remember the recorded version because i cant stand kiss really but based on that live version there was NOTHING memorable about that boring solo.

I like The Kinks' version a lot, too--but it's really apples and oranges. And let's face it, you're just a music snob who will object to most people's picks anyway.

i agree. knopfler's got great phrasing, plays cleanly, and doesn't hide behind any delay or distortion or other silly effects.

eh there are people that 'hide' behind distortion but at the same time i hate that blanket statement. There is plenty of music being made by amazing musicians in areas where distortion is key to their sound, but they could tear stuff up regardless.

No, I just hate self-indulgent guitar solos.

"You Really Got Me" is a two chord song (not counting the key change). Dave's solo, basically three double-stops repeated, fits it perfectly. It's a solo that serves the song.

EVH's solo isn't bad, but he's put a big, wacky solo into the same two chord song. If the arrangement was changed, it might make more sense, but it's just the same figure under his tone, and it doesn't fit.
