. . .jogging (!) "habit" has apparently angered some French "intellectuals."

Quote :
"Jogging - innocent, healthy exercise or a capitalist pastime designed to undermine democracy? That's the debate that's gripping France - where else?

Prominent intellectuals claim President Nicolas Sarkozy's love of jogging is un-French. They say it could even be a right wing plot to undermine French society.

Celebrated philosopher Alain Finkelkraut has said: 'Western civilisation, in its best sense, was born with the promenade. Walking is a sensitive, spiritual act. Jogging is management of the body.'

Sports editor Odile Baudrier agreed, saying: 'Jogging is, of course, about performance and individualism, values that are traditionally ascribed to the right
[emphasis added].'"

Is it any wonder that many don't care for the French--including the French.

Of course! It was all part of the master plan! Assassiante JFK so LBJ would become president and get us into a war with Vietnam so Nixon would become president and then have Ford become the VP and later the Prez when Nixon is framed at Watergate (by the Bushes) so GHW Bush becomes CIA Director and then becomes a challenger for the GOP nomination so he becomes vice-president under Reagan so he could later become president. Then, to add to the mastermind, they have his son, GW Bush, run for Governor for Texas for two terms so he could later run for president and win due to rigged votes in Florida (by Jeb). Then, to add to his strength, he has military jets crash into the Twin Towers as justification for invading Iraq, thus creating a safe haven for terrorists. This was a Bush-bin Laden Conspiracy!!!!!! Even without any evidence, we have come to the Conclusion that GHW Bush conspired with Osama bin Laden to assasinate President Kennedy!!!!

You almost got away with it, you sneaky bastard!

Yeah, I'm sure he's the only moonbat in France who thinks this way.

The point is you neanderthal, is this shit isn't TSB worthy. It's a lame retarded thread that none of us give a shit about. No amount of crafty first posting with italics, bold, and roll eyes can elevate your shitty threads to discussion worthy status.

Do you not get that you stupid piece of no vagina getting shit?

Take this bullshit to chit chat, where they will care about as much for this thread as we do, which is to say, zero.

you missed that.

tsb is not for ALL politics, ALL social issues, and ALL "financials"; rather only for those which are "serious".

this is politics, but not serious politics.

you fail.

i think this situation is perfectly worthy of discussion

the idea that intellectuals in France find something as harmless as "jogging" offensive is...

i don't know, awesome

i don't even think that we can imagine this being looked down upon, his jogging for exercise

but they're doing it, and they're serious about it

So the only two forms of bipedal transportation favored by our friends in France are:

walking

and

running

...away

hahahahahaha, get it?

Because they suck at wars so much

I don't get it

Quote :

However, Alain Finkelkraut has this in his wiki page

Quote :
"Subsequent to that controversy, he has issued other polemic statements. His thoughts about the current French society, which severely criticise various societal phenomena (notably what he calls hostile immigration and plain anti-racism), have earned him respect and a good reputation in France's conservative groups. It has also attracted equally severe criticism from left-wing groups, including newspaper such as Libération, Le Monde Diplomatique, Le Canard Enchaîné... Satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo, known for its harsh and bitter views on society, called him le philosophe des Obscurités ("the philosopher of Darkness")."

Dude, you suck, you got it all wrong, you completely missed the Rumsfeld connection (SECDEF for both Ford and Bush Jr) and the Cheney connection (SECSTATE for GHW, VeeP for GWB). Fuckin' salisburyboy wanna-be poser.

TSB worthy or not (I mean, it is a rather low threshold) I do find the original topic mildly amusing)

Yeah, I guess losing practically an entire generation of young men fighting to keep us safe during WWI on the western front just isn't good enough for you. How dare those pansies not want to go through that again. They must have loved terrorists then as well.

They weren't keeping us any damn thing. WWI Germany didn't have aspirations of global superpower. To my knowledge it didn't have any aspirations of keeping France once it took it over. It just wanted to be Billy Badass on the block for a while.

I'll admit that they did OK in WWI. At least they fought for the duration. But they fought incompetently and frequently sought to undermine our efforts. What was that godawful machine gun they made us carry in lieu of our own magnificient BAR? I don't even bother trying to remember the name.

In any event, I'll refer you to Petain's rallying cry:

"We'll wait for the Americans and we'll wait for tanks!"

I'll also refer you to PJ O'Rourke on Paris:

"Sure, you can sit outside and drink little cups of coffee there, but why this is preferable to sitting inside and drinking large cups of whisky, I'll never know."

--

I think that if a time ever comes again when shit is really on the line, the French will man up and do their duty to humanity and the rights thereof. Up until that moment, as far as I'm concerned, they can sit and bitch like they have for so long, as long as they don't get any prententions to expanding their sphere of weakness.

Does anyone remember the Maginot Line? I mean, it's synonymous with failure to this day.

Umm, WE decided not to bring the BAR (wasn't it the tommy gun?) not to WWI, NOT the french.

Quote :

Ummm, the Maginot Line shouldn't be synonymous with "failure." It did exactly what it was supposed to do. The Germans completely side-stepped it by going around it in the North. Thus, the Line thwarted the expected German attack along the France-Germany border.

What "shouldn't be" and what is are two different things.
