By denying Odell Thurman's application to re-enter the league after his 1-year suspension for violating the drug policy, Goodell has made this a *2* year suspension. 2 years for violating the drug policy and a DUI?
For those who don't know the story, he was suspended 4 games for violating the drug policy, got a DUI at this time, and Goodell decided to extend the suspension to a year based on that. Odell was accused by 2 douches that he kicked them, but they later dropped the case. Now Goodell is like "try again next year kthx bye."
He had reportedly been working construction lately and had gotten his act together. What the fuck did he go through the rehab program for if some douchebag commissioner is going to suspend him for another year anyway.
Mr. Goodell, suspend Vick or Joey Porter or something if you really need to stroke yourself, but this two-faced "crack down" on behavior in the NFL needs to go right back up your ass where it came from.

I like the new Commissioners response on players acting out of line. Set the rules, enforce them. Here's to hoping Vick gets at least a half season, if not whole season upper deck pass.
I love the game of football and the NFL, and hate the image the athletes are portraying right now.

Quote : | "Kansas City Chiefs defensive end Jared Allen, sanctioned in April for a repeat violation of the NFL's substance abuse policy, has had his four-game suspension reduced to two games as a result of an appeal.
The rare reduction, first reported by the Kansas City Star, was confirmed late Sunday by a league source. The NFL had never publicly announced the suspension, but Allen had admitted to it.
Allen will miss the first two contests of the season, on Sept. 9 at Houston and Sept. 16 at Chicago, instead of the campaign's entire first month. He will be eligible to return to the team on Sept. 17, provided he meets all the conditions of the suspension.
"I'm excited about this," Allen told the newspaper. "It changes training camp for me. It will change the way I approach the season."
Allen, 25, was suspended by commissioner Roger Goodell after twice being charged with DUI last year. He has demonstrated much remorse over the incidents and has become very involved in several local charities, most notably working with a group that raises funds to combat juvenile diabetes.
The former Idaho State star pleaded no contest to the most recent charges in September and entered a diversion program to resolve the first DUI incident from May 2006. " |

did you guys forget that the ontarrio smith was not reinstated after the whole whizzanator thing. so thurmans non-reinstatment is not exactly unprecedented. the jared allen thing is different in the eyes of the league because he never failed any drug tests.

I Love the new rules and suspension's being handed down. Just because they can play football does that give them the right to break the law?? If your a teacher and get a DUI you cna kiss your job good bye and you will probably not find another one. I am tired of all these Sport players thinking they are above the law. If our courts aren't going to do anything to them then let the commissioner do it. If they realize what will happen to them if they screw up then just maybe they might start acting like they have some sense. 7/30/2007 9:15:28 AM |

ditto im tired of everyone wanting sympathy for everything, and everyone else wanting us to sympathize with athletes etc.
Its a huge problem we have today. Everyone is a victim, no one wants responsibility, and everyone wants second chances. second chances are ok...but when they are EXPECTED like they seem to be today, they mean nothing, and soon they are wanting a third, fourth, and fifth forgiveness.
maybe a few people need to serve as examples but some things have to change

Because Rivers and guys like Manning and/or Brady aren't idiots, it shows a lot because you are stretching a ton to even suggest these guys would be involved with anything like that. I bet Manning's typical weekend is watching film and Rivers watching his kids, little chance to get into trouble anyway, coupled with an IQ above 50, and you have a winner

I'm not that familiar with his rap sheet, but drugs are a victim less crime, he only hurt himself, doing drugs didn't put other members of society in danger as with the Bengals roster, or with Pacman where an incident left a man in a wheelchair, or with Vick and the dogs, see the difference?7/30/2007 9:39:00 AM |
wolfpack1100 All American 4390 Posts user info edit post |
No drugs are the same thing. You are still breaking the law. Non of these athletes ever go to jail they just get put on probabtion. Its mainly due to the fact they can afford lawyers to get them out of trouble while regular working class individuals can not. If you get arrested 8 times in a year like pacman did then you did something wrong. He might be innocent but he still put himself in the position to get in that trouble. Getting a DUI isn't a little thing either most of us know atleast one person who was killed in a accident that involved a drunk driver. If you play with fire you eventually will get burned.
Its sad because for all of these troubled players getting all the media attention there are probably 100 or more guys that do right and stay out of trouble. Maybe one day owners and coaches will not put up with this type of behavior. 7/30/2007 9:51:38 AM |
