I'm trying to decide whether to take MAE 206 or CE 214. Can anyone give me some recommendations on which one to go with? 7/30/2007 2:36:17 PM |

your question is kind of confusing...are you basically asking whether you should study ME or CE in school as your major?
if youre question id probably take time to talk to teachers/academic advisors or ask some more questions on here or state what youd like to do with your degree.
if you just want to compare those specific classes we need some teachers names here. 7/30/2007 2:49:57 PM |

I'm considering going into biological engineering, and I have the option of either taking MAE courses or CE courses. 7/30/2007 2:57:44 PM |

Take CE. MAE statics is harder and odds are that you won't get a decent professor. 7/30/2007 4:17:50 PM |

^^yep.
You'll see the same material but almost certainly get better teaching in CE statics. 7/30/2007 5:57:27 PM |

I can only speak of 214, since im a CE, but I know we barely covered 3-D concepts whereas the MAE classes do (at least ive heard). 7/30/2007 6:01:50 PM |

We did cover 3D structures in MAE statics and (to a lesser extent) dynamics
but I saw very little of that used in future BME courses. 7/30/2007 6:11:19 PM |

as someone who took MAE 206 twice, I recommend CE 214 because MAE 206 is a weeder course for ME's. 7/30/2007 6:49:46 PM |

Take CE, they will give you the worst possible professor for MAE 7/30/2007 9:09:55 PM |

I think we did a decent amount of 3D in CE, but the teachers are definitely good especially Nau and Parish 7/30/2007 11:25:28 PM |

I am a senior in CE, and this is my view on this matter. CE objects are "Still"... MAE objects are "in motion"... This being the case, I would say Statics (still) is more in depth for a CE class, and dynamics (motion) would be more in depth in a MAE class. So I would recommend taking the MAE, but neither are a gimme course since it is probably one of the first "engineering" classes you are taking. Just stay on top of the hw/quizes and everything should be pretty easy. $0.02. 7/31/2007 8:08:28 AM |

the two statics courses (ME+CE) are nearly identical. (at least when i did ME 3-4 years ago), and generally CE has better teachers (mine in ME were terrible for statics) 7/31/2007 8:11:58 AM |

Essentially the only students who should take MAE statics are those in mechanical or aerospace engineering. Anyone else who is given the choice should take CE. 7/31/2007 8:37:21 AM |

Wraith hit the nail on the head, Take the CE course b/c MAE 206 is a weed out class. 7/31/2007 11:23:07 AM |
