um Ben Folds kicked ass, i can't even explain it. Granted I have been a BF/BFF fan for years now and stayed up to date with all his albums since the 90s. Your roommate is either not a musician, went to see john mayer instead or is just plain stupid. The crowd wanted an Encore from the OPENING BAND (Ben Folds)!!! I have never seen that placed so packed at 7pm.

Yeah, because he doesn't suck. Unfortunately, John Mayer does.

I had the same sentiment before last night...but John Mayer in fact does not suck. Surprisingly.

Nope, he still sucks.

And giving him money to see a good artist just isn't worth it.

I didn't give him money, my ticket was free. And I bought a Ben Folds t-shirt.

But seriously, if you like blues at all you should give him a re-listen.

John Mayer does not suck. What he can do with a guitar has not been seen by our generation. Jimi Hendrix was prolly the last that could do what he does. Its just ridiculous. And his blues is awesome. Every song he plays has a blues solo....maybe thats why you don't like it.

Ben Folds was awesome in his own right though. I would have paid the 50 bucks to just hear him keep playing. He's the ultimate showman.

sorry but if you didn't think 'Gravity' was the best song played last night by either act then you gotta be a fucking idiot

Ben folds rocked last night. I have been a long time fan, but this was the first time I have seen him live. I was not disappointed.

Hey, congrats on knowing nothing about music. It must be AWESOME!

Seriously, though, how much other Blues music have any of you even listened to? And no, I don't hate Blues, quite the contrary. But of course I respect Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker a hell of a lot more than I will ever respect the whiny stuff John Mayer puts out.

If Ben Folds had played a show by himself, I'dve gone in a heartbeat.

yea i wouldn't say mayer is anywhere near hendrix right now but he has come a long way

and the fact that he didn't play 'your body is a wonderland' was awesome

^you are correct in saying that, but still stupid for everything else. If you couldn't hear Ben Folds, you were either too high, hanging out with too many of the high school kids there, not paying attention or just simply sitting in the wrong place. I heard him perfectly, every word and every note....and yes, I was on the grass. His sound system was great (um, pretty much the same as waht John Mayer used).

i can't believe that you said that. Yes, Gravity had a really good solo in it, but it was far from the best song. If all the little girls weren't there to see John Mayer, I think Ben Fold would have stole the show. There just weren't enough musicians there to appreciate Ben Folds, which I'm willing to guess is why ViolentMAW didn't like the show. I will never go to another JM concert...way too many stupid ass HS kids.

That said, the DMB concert is filtrated with HS kids too. I guess they are just trying to "fit-in"? Isn't that what you do in HS?

i took my sister and its unfortunate she had no idea who ben folds was especially since they're from around here

its also unfortunate that people don't like john mayer because they think only young girls like him

I wasn't listening to his lyrics (kinda funny now that I think about it after Ben mentioned that "no one listens to lyrics" before he sang Bitches Ain't Shit). His skill was what got me. Didn't expect that, which is why I'm giving him more credit that I used to. And I'm not gonna lump him with Hendrix (Clapton or Hooker) by any fucking means necessary, though it would've been sweet to hear him attempt a cover. Music skill alone I walked in expecting to hear the accompaniment with the whiny shit like you're talking about (Wonderland, World to Change, or that other poppy sounding one that he came out with originally--something about school)...music skill alone, I walked out pleasantly surprised. That's all I'm saying. Will I get that same warm fuzzy feeling if I go out and buy a studio album? Oh hell no, I can pretty much guarantee I won't. But if a live album came out--I would probably download it.

Annnnnnnd end scene.

I have seen Ben Folds 4 or 5 times, I've met him and hung out back stage. I refused to go to last nights show, however, because he was opening up for the talentless fuck, John Mayer.

The day John Mayer gets one single cent of my hard earned money will be a cold day in hell.

Opinions are fine. If wolfpack2105 genuinely believes that John Mayer is the new Jimi Hendrix, then so be it. But I'll still make fun of him for it.

I'd venture to say he stole more from stevie ray and clapton at that show than hendrix... But a good concert either way. Thought ben folds had tons more energy all said and done.

^ and they both """stole""" from Hendrix(Stevie Ray more so) and Hendrix """stole""" from Buddy Guy and Buddy also """stole""" ..........basically you'll end up tracing it back to three black dude's from the delta.

1.Thats their fault becasue there have been many great players since 2. What? Jimi was the last person that'll ever do what Jimi did. John Mayer is the last person that'll ever be able do what John Mayer has done......but you can't say that there have been no amazing guitar players since Hendrix... until now.... with Mayer. What about Stevie Ray, Clapton, Page, Cray, Ford, Carlton, Santana, Cooder, Beck, Gatton, Winter, Trucks, Bonamassa, and Gibbons! And those are just some of the more popular/known ones.
