i cant remember any specific model name/number, but its a 5.1 set up w/ thx logo (unsure if that means anything extra to you)

anyways currently at home i have it in a 3.1 set up, fl and fr along with center and sub

at school i do the full 5.1 set up with the rear's mounted in the wall behind my desk

its not going to make any difference. stick with whatever came with your computer. its going to be negligible difference in performance, and you dont have to worry about any driver issues, or another peripheral card sucking power.

I guess not, but THX certified is rare as far as I've seen in cheap computer speakers.

THX certified is kind of like ViiV certified. It's a branding used to hype an otherwise pretty similar product. You don't see THX certification plastered all over the boxes for real hifi systems either.
