how can people say that Nas is the better rapper?

Illmatic was good...but Jay has so many solid albums.

Flame away.

blueprint, black album, and reasonable doubt crush nas' output

now nas is just jay-z's employee

ever since black album, everything jay-z has recorded has been complete trash however

also
blueprint 2 was complete trash, roc la familia was trash, in my lifetime was meh

i agree. I know people have said this before about Jay, but i think Kingdom Come was his sell out album. Just doesn't flow.

TreeTwista10, how can you say that Blue Print wasn't solid? I mean, for srs?

I don't get what you mean by sell out

who did he sell out to?

He's the president of the company for fuck's sake

Maybe what you mean to say is, he became apathetic, I can understand maybe he tried making an album with somewhat of a different theme (the whole grown up 30 year old rapper thing), but he could have at least tried coupling that concept with his skill and a bit of effort.

Illmatic is hands down better than anything Jay ever put out. I even think Stillmatic is better than most of Jay's albums. When you factor in each one's entire discography though, Jay-Z is the more consistent recording artist.

I wish I was a mediocre rapper that got shot so you'd like me too

Blueprint was not only amazing lyrically, but it finally brought Kanye to the public eye.

Where's the love?

i have zero idea what the hell you're talking about as far as a medicore rapper that got shot

but i think you need to go back to the fall out boy thread, thats probably a little more your style

you're probably one of those cats that hears an EPMD song and says "hey i think they sampled this from beyonce"

as for mediocre rappers gettin popped, your boy Big L took more shots to his chest and dome than Brianna Banks

lol that wasnt one of the 2 i was refering to

i was refering to the eminem produced one(moment of clarity) and one other song i'd have to look up right quick...i hated the 99 problems one

[Edited on August 9, 2007 at 6:30 PM. Reason : maybe dirt off ya shoulders or something...i forget and dont like jayz enough to look]

i never liked that ny shit though...its too much about lyrics and not enough about beats like dirty south

Dirt off ya Shoulders is a perfect example of a song that did well because of:

- beat
- hook

and not because of:

- lyrics

i think most of the arguments about why Jay is better than Nas are actually just evidence on why Pharell is a successful producer

Wasn't shit? Hard knock life, the song that really blew his career up dropped in 98, big L got shot the fuck up in 99

yet vol 2 went 5x platinum, you know, that album that came out in 98

big L died in 99

wow i can use google and fill up the page with a bunch of repated quotes over and over again to cover up the fact that i only started listening to rap a few years ago and because of that i honestly believe jay-z is one of the greatest of all time

maybe next you'll tell me how 50 Cent is a better rapper than Rakim

(i'll give you time to google 'Rakim' to find out who i am talking about)

Look, you tried making a point, and you failed

I'm sorry I hurt your feelings and now you're trying to prove you're more of a rap fan (GO YOU!!)

I don't care how long you've been listening to rap, you're obviously talking out of your ass, and you're now upset you've been called out for it

I mean, what a dumb statement to make, just own up to being a dumbass by claiming Jay-Z wasn't shit before Big L was killed, I mean, come one, the facts speak for themselves, that was a dumb statement to make

jay-z still isnt shit...when people like Big L, Big Pun, Biggie and Pac died it helped open up a spot for garbage emcees like Jay

unless your whole point is that the best rapper has to have the most album sales, in which case Jay would be up there, but obviously album sales dont mean shit

hey jay congatulations on being the most famous rapper of the garbage era of hiphop

the thread should've honestly ended right after this:

^^well the point was, Pun was a "famous rapper" when he was out...he had songs on the radio, videos, etc...and when a "superstar" like that dies it opens up room for others

Agony's alias ass lost this thread long ago when he called Big L mediocre but said the Blueprint was "amazing lyrically"

^what does that have to do with anything? i mentioned rappers that had died and were prominent because they were superstars (especially Pac and BIG) when Jay was not...go back to the fallout boy thread cause you dont know shit except for what you google

jayz has straight up admitted that his raps aren't about great lyrics

"if skills sold, truth be told, i'd probably be, lyrically, talib kweli"

so yea agony is pretty dumb. i agree that rappers that die create a vacuum for one of the lower guys to step up. I like Jayz more than Nas because Nas tends to get too preachy sometimes.

anyways i'm about as white as you get, so i can't add much more to this other than i can't wait for Detox.

Not once in this thread did I claim sales had anything to do with talent.

The only reference to sales, was that when you said Jay was unknown before the death of Big L, which was clearly a dumb statement

Why are you posting on here anyways? Shouldnt you be out slingin crack and shootin thugs keepin it real?
