"Last season: 3-9 overall, 2-6 ACC

Why They'll Win: Talent and coaching. Former NC State Chuck Amato may have lacked when it came to play calling, but he was certainly a good recruiter. New coach Tom O'Brien inherits a team with many playmakers including the talented backfield of Andre Brown and Tony Baker. The talent combined with the increased coaching competency should turn some of last season's narrow losses into wins.

Why They Won't: Quarterback play. New offensive coordinator Dana Bible's scheme calls on the QB to make quick decisions and accurate throws. When it works it can elevate a player to all conference (see Matt Ryan). When it doesn't, it can be a frustrating, stagnant mess. Unfortunately for Pack fans there isn't a Matt Ryan on the roster. Daniel Evans, Harrison Beck and Justin Burke are all competing for the starting role and none have distinguished himself so far. If none of them are able to grasp the new offense, NC State will have a hard time improving on last season's win total.

Prognosis: The schedule is tough with only Wofford as a sure thing. But even with the growing pains of the new staff NC State has enough talent to beat any team on their schedule. Look for Tom O'Brien to pull an upset or two and the Pack to make babysteps back to respectability."

^ seems like a reasonable analysis IMO. We really do not know what to expect from this team so in reality Wofford is our only sure bet.

had a dream the other day that I was in Mitch's and TOB came up to me and told me Beck had the job. I woke up and entered into rehab because I'm addicted to football.

What is funny is that Wofford is actually a very good 1-AA team. They are ranked #5 in the first poll.

We barely got by ASU and Wofford is about on their level....not saying we will lose but we still need to show up.

[Edited on August 17, 2007 at 10:23 AM. Reason : V They are #5 according to my Wolfpacker mag so must be different poll]

most work filters go by url keywords instead of page content.

for me, anything with sports.* or fantasysports.* or *games* is autoblocked

seems to be a pessimistic outlook...i mean we've consistently been a bowl team until last year...the 3-9 is an outlier on the bad side just like the 11-3 was an outlier on the good side during rivers' junior year...we are a 6-6 team this year at least

ASU got across the 50-yard line twice in the entire game, and both of them were due to us giving up turnovers on our own half of the field.

we barely beat BC and barely lost to Akron

hopefully this year our offensive linemen will barely NOT false start all the time and our d-linemen will barely NOT be offisides when the opposing QB snaps the ball

Everyone that I work with who is a fan of a different team (UT, VT, Duke, ECU, etc) have all said that we were nowhere near as bad as our record indicated last year. We played well below what we were capable of. A bad season for last years team should have only been 5-7 at the worst.

^^ or barely not LINE THE FUCK UP offsides... I mean, offsides for a lineman anticipating the snap is one thing... LINING UP OFFSIDES is completely baffling and a CTC forte.

obviously our players had a hard time lining up on sides, so maybe he should've.

You know you can do those things during practice.
