My dad's looking for a new printer/scanner combo. I'm really in the dark as far as what's good.

-must be compatible with Vista
-must be a printer/scanner
-must be able to print photos
-preferably doesn't force a bunch of retarded software on you
-preferably doesn't act like a bitch every time you try to cancel a job
-preferably not over $250

Goto Walmart and look at almost any printer there.

I personally like HP/Epson.

That's what I've done for all the printers I've owned, and they've all been pieces of crap.

Are all printers as bad as a HP F340?

I have an HPC4280 and like it.

It was $100.

if you want to avoid this:

"preferably doesn't force a bunch of retarded software on you"

do not buy any combo unit.

You can get a decent 8.5x11 scanner for 40-75 bucks, and a pretty damn good photo printer for in the 150 range.

Most HP PHOTO and Epson PHOTO printers are good buys, but stay away from the multifunction and base model units. Also check out the Canon Pixma series, they are all pretty damn badass.

For scanners, pretty much anything you can find is going to do the job. They almost ALL have the scan/print/copy functionality which will do the same thing (but for less money and less driver retardation) as a combo unit.
