He cites insufficient income to cover his medical expenses.

^^ yeah, either that, or he's banking for a hell of a lot of sympathy for him and the Administration by making this plea.

** dons flame suit as any Republican, nay, any decent American, will stand aghast at the very mention of such an absurd insinuation. he's a cancer patient for god's sake! **

.... to his credit though, Snow is pretty much amazing at his job. I've never seen anyone make other people look so stupid and misinformed for asking otherwise perfectly legitimate questions

"not enough" is relative.

He's making $168,000 a year as press secretary. As a commentator on FNC and the host of a nationally syndicated radio show, he had to at least be pulling in a mil or two a year.

I'm not saying the Bush administration is better or worse than any other on healthcare. But if I were Prez, I wouldn't want my cabinet-level officials having to resign over the costs associated with battling cancer. That looks pretty bad.

^ yeah, exactly. that's why i call bullshit.
if they can find enough people to give Scooter Libby $250k in a matter of days, they can find enough to keep Snow afloat

there are people battling what he has with a far less of a salary.

I mean, his money in the bank has probably dropped below his personal comfort level which is 100000x more than ours.

So as much as you lefties want to page Michael Moore on this, there isn't a story.

It looks to me like Press Secretary would be a shit job. I mean you have no say over policy but you have to stand out there and take shit from everyone.

LOL. I think at some point I'd be like "Hold on a sec... *turns and yells over shoulder* What in the Goddamn fuck is this bullshit, guys???"

^i r not a "Leftie"

yeah, he does look like crap.

And I think it would be perfectly acceptable/respectable of him to say he needs to quit because of health reasons, or because he needs time with his family (in the case of a cancer patient, this could actually be true), but to blame it on financial reasons when 1) he should have enough bank to cover almost anything thrown at him, 2) his health care plan really can't be that bad, and 3) he would certainly have full financial backing/support from some of the richest people in the world just screams "sympathy"

I'm sure when he leaves and takes a cushy job working for a lobbying firm, they will be able to pay him enough to cover his medical expenses.

That's sad he thinks $168k is poor and he can't live on it.

I know he had a talk show and whatever, it's still sad.

^x6 It certainly is a thankless job. BTW, since sometime in the 1960s (I think), each press secretary has passed down a flak jacket and placed a personal note in the pocket for his or her successor. It's a pretty good symbol of the shit they take.

so the official reason for resigning

of the United States President's personal spokesman

is that he can't afford to pay his medical bills.

....

i mean, it's probably not possible to reduce the President's credibility any further, but it sure seems like Tony Snow is trying.

the irony here is multilayered.

for one thing, I don't believe him. But even if there is some truth to it, why didnt he just say he's resigning for "medical reasons" ... that the treatments are too demanding for him to continue to work such an intense job. NO ONE would question that.

to say that he cant AFFORD it, is ... just ... weird. He's just given real support to the Universal Health Care proponents.

of course, this begs the question of what exactly he will be doing now.
think about it.... if he's quitting a job that makes 168k+perks because he can't afford his medical expenses, then that means he must be going to do something else that makes more money. if he's quitting his job and not going to another job that makes considerably more, then his excuse just makes no sense at all.

too bad no where in that article does it state that he is leaving because he can't afford his medical bills.

that may be the case, but you guys are assuming.

Quote :
"He took a significant pay cut to take the job of press secretary and has talked publicly in the past about the financial sacrifices, as well as his passion for the post.

People close to Snow said that he felt he needed to make some more money to help his family, which includes children readying for college. "

maybe he knows he is getting ready to kick the bucket and wants to cash in at Fox as much as possible so his family doesn't have to worry. that is only speculation just like everything else in this thread.

either way, no where does Tony Snow CITE insuffucient income to cover medical expenses.

I see that now. I think CNN sort of implied it by bringing up the cancer thing.

Sry if I misinterpreted the article.

well... ;et's think about it. in suburban DC, 168K isn't as outrageous as it might sound to you.

i mean if that was a household's entire income, and they had like 3 kids to put through private school and college....

its definitely middle-class.

but im sure Tony Snow has a lot more going on than just his 168K salary. face it, the man is a pretty sharp cookie.

i can also see how he'd want to get the fuck out of the Bush Administration ASAP, since with him being seriously sick AND trying to keep their sinking ship afloat... they just can't pay him enough.

the rats are abandoning the sinking ship. its quite clear. And Bush looks sadder and sadder with every subsequent resignation of his top staffers.

I read the article looking for the mention of struggling with bills...and didn't see shit.

Read the thread, and I'm just now seeing that y'all realized money was not mentioned as an issue.

Seriously, folks, y'all are some reactionary mother fuckers.

Why the fuck did CNN include that unnecessary info in the article?

I still say they implied that was the reason.
