Ok, so I was researching whether I could put a licensed dell version of windows vista that came with my laptop to a Dell desktop that I own. On the internet people have claimed that it was legal to put 1 licensed vista on a desktop and notebook only but not 2 desktops. Some have claimed this is wrong and you need 2 licenses. Anyone know the real answer to that?

Also I have a Toshiba windows upgrade to vista from my moms laptop i bought her but didn't bother to install it on hers since she was used to XP and was wondering if I would be able to alter that so that I could use it for my Dell. Anyone know how to do that?

you're only allowed 1 computer per license. you can put it on the desktop but your supposed to take it off the laptop

some people will forget to take it off the previous pc.

^no, in fact i have no idea where that rumor came from, i don't see why they would allow that

^^ You may be thinking of Word/Office. The student/teacher edition license allows installation on a desktop and laptop.

Even the professional version lets you do that. I had to re-install my Office 2003 Pro version on my new laptop, and it wouldn't activate because I had done that already twice. So I called up support, and they said that as long as I was using it on 1 desktop and 1 laptop, I could re-install. You can't do 2 laptops or 2 desktops.

being that that would be against microsoft's EULA and therefore illegal, no, we do not know hot to do that.
