I wondered about it, but really... what else is going on in the sports world aside from Vick and baseball??

The guy was a 25 year old NBA player that showed a lot of talent.

didn't he have a history of depression?

I would have maybe thought it was a suicide but then he prob would have parked his car on the tracks and waited for it

How have you never heard of this guy? He was the #1 recruit in the nation coming out of high school.

This is definitely thread worthy.

Tommy Amaker put Seton Hall on the map by getting the #1 recruiting class in the nation (also included Andre Barrett and that guy with the hyphenated last name)...

Seton Hall I believe was ranked #1 in the nation at one point that season before they completely collapsed and missed the tournament. Eddie Griffin went pro after his freshman year and was projected to be the #1 pick until a lot of issues about his character came up.

I believe he was drafted by NJ and then traded to Houston for Richard Jefferson and a few other first rounders...

Sad story, he fought alcoholism and depression his entire career. Great three point shooter and shot blocker, just couldnt get his life straight

yeah, if you hadn't heard of eddie griffin, then you're obviously neither a college basketball or nba fan. or you're just too damn young.

RIP

I remember watching him play for Seton Hall and in the NBA a little. He was a pretty good ballplayer. Terrible news.

BTW, wasn't Herb/Larry Harris all over this guy out of HS?

i cant remember the guy's first name but I know his last was Tony-El

Seton Hall was nasty that year. Somehow, I remember the Syracuse game with Preston Shumpert being a great one. RIP Ed

Sucks that he never fulfilled his potential and now is dead. Can't believe how he went from the best high school player in the country to very good college player to NBA sub to dead in 7-8 years.

Why couldn't Shumpert cut in the NBA? Big wing that could knock it down from anywhere. What happened to him?
