this season or overall (amongst current players)
rank them if you like or just list em
and i guess you can add NL pitchers but keep em separate...we all know Peavy and Webb are ballin but at least keep the lists separate
AL Pitchers
1. Johan Santana 2. Roy Halladay 3. Scott Kazmir 4. Justin Verlander 5. CC Sabathia
i guess my list isnt necessarily just based on this season or an Erik Bedard wouldve made it although Sabathia kind of goes against that trend
anyway this should be enough to get the topic going 8/22/2007 7:14:23 PM |

Umm, if this is overall too, then how in the hell do you not have Clemens on that list?

i guess what i meant by overall was just to say that a pitcher like Johan who isnt having a Cy Young caliber season is still one of the best overall, whereas Clemens might be the best of all time, but as of right now he's past his prime, if that makes sense
think "best pitchers in the game right now"

^^Oh ok, got ya. That makes a lot more sense. I didn't think you would over overlook Clemens.

Escobar has a better ERA than Santana and a better win/loss record if this is a "right now" sorta thing. Also, is this just starting pitchers? J.J. Putz is a monster, leads the AL in saves. 8/22/2007 8:07:57 PM |

I'm taking this "right now" thing to be more of a "who would you want starting for you right now" sorta thing 8/22/2007 8:19:54 PM |

Obviously none of the guys for the Orioles tonight could make this list.

1. Roy Halladay (post his cy young season several years ago) has not been a top 5 pitcher. He's missed significant parts of 05 and 06, and this year, he isn't even the best pitcher on his team (Shaun Marcum)
2. If this is a list of best pitchers, then we have to include relievers. Papelbon, Jenks, Putz, Nathan, etc are all deserving of top 5 consideration.
3. Why is Scott Kazmir getting so much love? I understand he pitches for a horrible team, and his stuff is nasty, elite pitchers still find a way to win games. Dude is 1 game over .500 this year.
4. How about an NL list...
1. Peavy 2. Webb 3. Young 4. Hamels 5. Aaron Harang (flame on) 8/23/2007 5:06:47 AM |

If your talking about current pitchers throughout their career then the top 5 should be
1. Roger Clemens 2. Johan Santana 3. Mariano Rivera 4. Curt Schilling 5. Roy Halladay
If your talking this season as the major barometer
1. Josh Beckett 2. Dan Haren 3. JJ Putz 4. Kelvim Escobar 5. Justin Verlander 8/23/2007 8:27:34 AM |

just for this season i would throw in carmona from the indians he has been pitching really well all season, unfortunatly he hasnt been getting the run support he needs. 8/23/2007 9:52:00 AM |

if you are talking strictly about this season, you have to put Bedard and Beckett on the list. 8/23/2007 9:55:07 AM |

i was about to say the exact same thing. the guy's been lights out and keeps getting stuck with no run support. somehow we'll end up losing 1-0 or 2-1. CC's got the name recognition but fausto is our true #1 right now.8/23/2007 10:28:09 AM |

What are you talking about?
http://mlb.mlb.com/team/player.jsp?player_id=136880
Halladay is 14-5 with 5 complete games. Marcum has a worse record and no complete games. Halladay is 4-0 in his last 5 starts. Plus he has consistently produced.8/23/2007 11:16:37 AM |

i disagree...i'd definitely put Sabathia over Carmona if you're just talking about this year...ERA and WHIP are similar but Sabathia has a few more wins and a lot more strikeouts...i have them both on my fantasy team btw haha
^yeah marcum has been a better pitcher over the last few weeks but not the season as a whole...halladay is STILL a beast
