not Houstons over Ravens...

Quote :
" The Texas Rangers rounded the bases at a dizzying pace and became the first team in 110 years to score 30 runs in a game, setting an American League record Wednesday in a 30-3 rout of the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards.

"That was ridiculous. I have never been in anything like that in my life," said Jarrod Saltalamacchia, one of two Texas players who homered twice and drove in seven runs.

It was the ninth time a major league team scored 30 runs, the first since the Chicago Colts set the major league mark in a 36-7 rout of Louisville in a National League game on June 28, 1897, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

Hours after announcing manager Dave Trembley would return for the 2008 season, the Orioles absorbed the most one-sided defeat in franchise history and set a team record for hits allowed (29).

And that was just Game 1 of a doubleheader.

Trailing 3-0 in the opener, the last-place Rangers at last did something right. They scored five runs in the fourth inning, nine runs in the sixth, 10 in the eighth and six more in the ninth.

"This is something freaky. You won't see anything like this again for a long, long time. I am glad I was on this end of it," said Marlon Byrd, who hit one of two Texas grand slams.

The Rangers kept right on hitting in the nightcap, too, although at a decidedly tamer pace. Travis Metcalf drove in four runs and Texas used a three-run eighth for a 9-7 victory.

With the sweep, the Rangers set an AL record for runs in a doubleheader, surpassing the 36 scored by Detroit in 1937.

"What am I going to remember about today? Thirty runs scored in one game and having to play another one after that," Texas second baseman Ian Kinsler said. "It was a very strange day."

In other AL games, it was: New York 8, Los Angeles 2; Tampa Bay 2, Boston 1; Cleveland 11, Detroit 8; Minnesota 8, Seattle 4; Oakland 4, Toronto 1; and Kansas City 7, Chicago 6.

Travis Metcalf hit the other grand slam for the Rangers after being called up from the minors earlier in the day. Saltalamacchia and Ramon Vazquez, the bottom two batters in Texas' lineup, each homered twice and finished with seven RBIs.

David Murphy had five of Texas' 29 hits, the most by a major league team since Milwaukee had 31 in a 22-2 victory over Toronto on Aug. 28, 1992, according to Elias.

The Rangers totaled 28 runs in their previous nine games, including two runs on seven hits in their last two. Texas set a team record for runs in a doubleheader — before the second game even started.

"I knew we'd get the bats going, but I never expected anything like this," manager Ron Washington said. "When the faucet is on, you want it to stay on. You never want to cut it off."

Daniel Cabrera (9-13) took the loss, giving up six runs and nine hits in five-plus innings.

Winning pitcher Kason Gabbard (6-1) allowed three runs in six innings.

Even with the one-sided score, Wes Littleton earned his second major league save by pitching three scoreless innings. "

DUDE, WITH A 27 RUN LEAD, LITTLETON EARNED A SAVE??? WTF! HAHA

And yes, this deserves it's own thread... most run sin modern major league history.

^I think he had to pitch three innings to earn that save. There's like a rule that if the lead is more than three runs, if the relief pitcher pitches three innings, he is eligible for the save. I'm probably wrong.

^ No you're right. 3 innings is the rule. Automatic save after that.

I could've pitched a save last night...

The Question is once it was like 20-3 why did the Os not put a position player in and let him mop up the rest of the game? Why did they go with Paul Shuey, an older veteran who doesn't need to be embarrassed like that?

It was a day night double header. This was the first of two games. They were probably saving some arms for a game they could be competitive in.

Also, the Rangers scored more runs last night than the Tampa Bay Devil Rays have scored in their past 12 games.

a %575 increase over the average score in a Major League baseball game.

An NFL team would have to score 131 point in a game to accomplish that feat.

An NBA team would have to score 650 points in one game to reach a %575 increase in scoring.

Really amazing stat right there, becasue there is no way in hell that would ever happen.

well the obvious difference with those other games is that there is a time limit.

^ I don't think this game was any longer than the average MLB game... I'm checking to find that stat

2 hours, 46 minutes for an average American league game

This game ran 3 hours, 21 minutes

Yeah you cant really compare games with time limits, nor the fact that you dont have total control in football or basketball how long you have the ball. Baseball is pretty straight forward in that you get your 3 outs then the other team until the 9 innings have been played. Other games you have a time limit and the other team having the ball for half that time doesnt make scoring any easier.

^ well, technically, the other team has the ball for half the time in baseball.

half the OUTS

course baseball is also a game where a team might go 162-0 (not really but bear with me)...sweep the pennant, and then get swept in the world series just because of 4 good pitchers on the other team

I think what is more impressive is that they only scored in 4 innings to put up those 30 runs.

Yeha, that's ridiculous. not scoring in more innings than they scored and putting 30 runs on the board.

epic pwning....

30 earned runs... 30....

what kind of shitty pitching staff do you have to have to give up 30 fucking runs....

for the double header score it was 39 - 10 over 2 games....

sweet fucking jesus....

team ERA raised 0.5 overall.... after how many games this season?

The Baltimore Ravens, who play across the parking lot from the Orioles, haven't allowed 30 points since Week 12 in 2005.

Read what I said. I said they should have put in a position player to pitch and save their pitchers.

Let's see what Tejada or one of them could do since the game was over.
