Did a search, only thing I could find was over a year old. Slated for an October 9th release, who's ready for some classic flag and gib action.

Man I would play for hours on end on the original. Did the whole clan thing, then tried a guild for elite snipers and stuff. Basically you were a good sniper if you had fast internet connection!
But yea I may have to skip on it. Going online just isn't the same for me anymore. 8/23/2007 2:41:59 PM |

TFC is probably my favorite game of all time. Definitely looking forward to this, and to http://fortress-forever.com/ which seems to be more for the purists. 8/23/2007 2:53:05 PM |

TFC is still the most fun I've ever had in a competitive online game. Everything I've seen of Team Fortress 2 looks amazing. There better be a "The Hunted" map. 8/23/2007 5:15:31 PM |

bunny hopping is the best thing about fps's ever. too bad you cant do it well on a console.
that said, tf2 looks great, but Enemy Territory is coming out before it to xbox so im gonna have a hard decision.

they took out stuff like bunny hopping, nades, and armor so halo/madden players wouldn't get confused in the 360 version.8/23/2007 6:45:49 PM |

kinda unfair to whine about nades and mention halo. since halo 3 will have 4 grenade types which you can carry around. halo technically also has armor, both normally and of the super variety. 8/23/2007 6:52:16 PM |

Halo uses grenades better than any game I have ever played, so I don't see your point there.8/23/2007 8:37:42 PM |
Shaggy All American 17820 Posts user info edit post |
The difference is that all 4 halo grenades do the same thing. TFC's nades were class specific and allowed for more varied gameplay.
Medics conc jumping, scouts conc jumping, medics using a conc to jump a heavy onto a sniper, nades for supressing snipers. Nade jumping, nade/rocket jumping, rocket/nade suiciding. Grenades that kill people based on the ammo types and # of grenades they're currently carrying.
They took it out becuase the average halo player wont get it or be able to do it. This is the same console gamer that buys the same madden game every year.
You can also blow up demo pipes by shooting at them.
I'd be fine with it if they just did this stuff to the 360 version, but its all going to come over to the pc side of things as well. 8/24/2007 11:00:30 AM |
cyrion All American 27139 Posts user info edit post |
all i hear is a bunch of speculative whining about why the grenades were changed. perhaps they just thought it was too complicated in general and has nothing to do with consoles. hardcore gamers are hardcore gamers, be it on the console, pc, or both. trying to compare the madden gamer to anyone playing halo or any other fps is just silly.
bunny hopping and some aiming issues are about the only thing you can fault the console with.
[Edited on August 24, 2007 at 11:10 AM. Reason : and if you read, the incindiary grenade sounds much diff than any other halo nade before it] 8/24/2007 11:09:43 AM |

the madden gamer is the halo gamer. These are the people who only play games on their console and dont know there are actual good fps's out there and that they're played with a keyboard and mouse.
They've dumbed it down to grab players from halo and whatever else is on the 360. Instead of just being a mod for HL2 like it should have been. 8/24/2007 11:18:16 AM |
cyrion All American 27139 Posts user info edit post |
i disagree. there are plenty of madden players who play halo, but there is also a large body of fps gamers who do as well. thats why it is so popular (it did well on the pc too you know). i want a list of what makes halo so terrible compared to every other fps.
things halo did well: -first well done networked/online console fps -relatively balanced weapons. i never fealt overly weak with anything. -well done vehicle additions -decent single player with a good flow and alright story
and best of all, it was all done while being relatively simple. id say the same is .true for the call of duty games. they have great single player, are fun to play, and still keep it relatively simple (though a bit more complex than halo). there are other great fps's, but ragging on halo because one segment of the market ALSO happens to like it is dumb.

Halo was a landmark console FPS, but didn't really do much for the genre as a whole. Everything it did well was already done better on the PC, except vehicles, which came shortly after with the Battlefield series and UT2k4.
With that said, I don't think Halo is solely to blame for TF2's "consolification", I think it has more to do with bringing the game to the consoles in general, and having to dumb down the controls a bit to accommodate a gamepad with fewer buttons than a keyboard/mouse. Of course, it was probably Halo's success in the first place that compelled them to do it. In any case, the game still looks stupid fun, and since the game isn't supporting cross platform play or kb+m on consoles, the most competitive experience will undoubtedly be found on the PC.
EDIT:
I have to mention vehicles in Starsiege: Tribes or Shaggy will drive down here and kill me It came several years before Halo and did vehicles very very well.

Pre-order Orange Box for $44.95, play Team Fortress 2 starting next Tuesday. It's kinda gay that you have to buy the whole Orange Box even you already have HL2 and HL2:Ep1, but $44.95 isn't bad. Even if they release TF2/EP2/Portal separately, I don't see it costing less than $39.99. 9/11/2007 2:46:17 PM |

just checked IGN, looks like episode 2 will be available by itself the same day as orange box. I'm curious about Portal though.

I mean, it'll be released by itself, but it's gonna cost $29.95 anyway. You're much better off just getting the Orange Box while it's still $44.95. Ep2 and Portal are easily worth $15. 9/12/2007 11:00:40 AM |

Yeah I guess but it just sucks that I (along with everyone else who is pumped for this) already has HL2 and episode 1.
