i like my bourbon with water over ice.


my favorites are:

1. makers mark -my all around favorite- spice/cinnamon, light oak

2. my second place favorites in no particialr order
bulleit - to me the flavor is of earthy leatherness
knob creek - maple and brown sugar
woodford reserve - slightly sweet with nice caramel a vanilla notes

3. honorable mentions
elijah craig 18 year old - like sucking on an oak stave

my favorites are similar - maker's mark / woodford reserve at top (i drink more maker's though) followed by knob creek

Beam 8 year reserve, got some that was bottled in the mid 70's and before. Def a special occasions only bottle though, no water needed, ice optional.

Of course the EW black is fine for anytime drinking.

I just throw in 3 ice cubes and wait five minutes.

I’d really recommend going to KY and hitting all the distilleries, it’s a lot of fun.

Oh and the magic ingredient if just can't resist the urge to mix such a great beverage - Bojangles' tea. You can also mix it half and half in the tea container and sneak it into any event on the planet.

Basil Hayden's is VERY spicy and it bites hard. The flavor is wonderful - everything you could want your bourbon to have - but you'll be assulted with fire on every sip. If you like your bourbon to have bite, Basil Hayden's is great. You can temper it a bit with some water, or you can do it like I do and mix in with Blenheim's Hot Ginger Ale. The spice of the Blenheim's and the fire of the Basil Hayden's are a absolutely perfect match.

Last time we had one of these threads, we had half of the people posting about how jack daniels was their favorite bourbon. I'm really glad that nobody has dropped that kind of ignorant shit in this thread.

As for my votes, my all-time favorite is still Elijah Craig Single barrel 18yo. Bulleit is another favorite, and as cheap as it is, you can't beat it.

I mean, I'll pretty much drink anything single barrel, i haven't had a bad single barrel bourbon that I can recall.

I haven't tried most of the more expensive or less popular ones listed, but I do enjoy a glass of bourbon and water.

I mostly drink Jim Beam or Wild Turkey.

^ Drink better bourbon. You'll be happy. At least in that price range, drink Elijah Craig. It's worlds better. The Whiskey Bible gave Elijah Craig either 94 or 96 points out of 100. That's rock star level right there.

I like Maker's Mark, and haven't really had the opportunity to try anything else on the better end of bourbon.

I'm really bad at articulating these things properly, so i'm gonna borrow:

the first thing I notice is the smooth texture, followed by the "complex fruit" (It doesn't even really make sense in words, but when you drink it, that's spot on), as well as the honey undertones. I didn't really get the almond taste, but i'll have to try again and see...

Um. . .the Crown Royal was posted as an "FYI" after the main entry, which was Early Times. And bourbon, also called bourbon whiskey, is a straight whiskey distilled from a mash having 51 percent or more corn. Originally, corn whiskey was produced in Bourbon County, Kentucky, and Kentucky happens to be where Early Times whiskey comes from.

So--technically--my Early Times is the real bourbon whiskey here. In addition, you didn't take issue with me posting that I "mostly drink beer these days and a good Bloody Mary once in a while," did you?

Concerning the "medicinal" qualities of Early Times, I quite agree that the whiskey possesses same. And I think I need some "medicine" right now--you people will make somebody drink!
