"ECU Quarterback Charged With DWI
East Carolina University (ECU) Sports Logo

By Dane Huffman

Posted: Aug. 27 3:11 p.m.
Updated: Aug. 27 5:26 p.m.

Greenville — East Carolina University quarterback Rob Kass was arrested early Saturday and charged with driving while impaired, police said.

Police said Kass had a blood-alcohol level of 0.19, which is more than twice the 0.08 legal level of intoxication in North Carolina.

Kass, 20, was arrested at East 5th Street in Greenville at 1:28 a.m. Saturday. He was charged with DWI and provisional DWI, which is in connection with underage drinking.

He is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 13.

The Pirates open Saturday at powerful Virginia Tech, and Kass is scheduled to be the starting quarterback against one of the nation’s best defenses.

ECU coach Skip Holtz said Monday he was still gathering facts and not ready to discuss the incident. Holtz said he hoped to have a public statement as early as Wednesday."

and how has he not been suspended or anything yet?

ECU needs to have him to play. They will suspend him for one game in which they think they can win without him. Why do you think so many teams face cup cakes in their furst game?? So that when their players screw up they can bench them for that one game.

actually Kass isnt terrible, hes prolly the best combo player they have.

they have a white guy #11 that can throw the ball deep really well he just sucks on his short reads and cant throw it in stride or on the run, true pocket passer.

they have a black guy who i think is a freshmen that is a nasty mobile QB and really good on his slants and underneath patterns but cant throw the long ball to save his life.

they have some really talented up and coming RBs as well as some tallll talllll lanky receivers that have some speed, their corners are really small though.

but yea, Kass is the best combo dual threat QB they have which isnt saying much.

but they wont suspend him for the Vtech game prolly saying they will wait till his court date to do that, which means he may be gone for like Tulsa or someone.

btw, my friend who works with the football team says they haven't practiced since the incident so they will likely find out today at practice who will be the starter for VT.

Rob Kass is 6'5" 250 lbs.

how is that a dual threat?

He runs a 40 in the mid 5's.

Kass will be removed from the team for this entire year.

He's got four back ups that could start at State all day long.

Have a fun season ya'll.

I never said Evans was good, but I doubt there are 5 QBs at ECU better... if so, they were fucking morons to go to ECU over State

have you been to the ECU practices this summer like I have?

i doubt it

if so you would realize his backups all have GAPING holes in their game

he is the only one that remotely is decent as a dual threat

the others suck in some way, some BIG way

thanks for tryin though

Actually they just suspended him for one game that they would have lost no matter who they had at the helm.

has anyone in this country besides ecu students taking ecu football seriously, I think duke has more wins in the 2000's than ecu does first downs

No I will stick up for ECU they have won more games than duke has. Besides that however I think a great game would be ECU vs App State. Equally matched in my mind. We can put the ECU QB vs App States new freshman next year Miss teen South Carolina.

I hate ECU as much as the next guy... but why does everyone seem to think they suck so bad? They had a winning season last year and are predicted to have another solid season this year. It seems like the posters in this thread are basing a team's chances solely on their QB play. If that's the case...

When you play in C-USA, your cupcakes are in conference.

ECU is Va Tech's cupcake. You see how that works?

I am going to give ECU their credit. I don't think they are too bad, I don't think Skip Holtz is bad at all, and I am thinking they will start winning 8 plus games year in and year out soon...

thanks for trying?

you think Kass is a dual threat?

we must not be talking about the same kind of dual threat

you must be talking about being able to throw a bomb and throw down a pitcher of bud light.

If you think he runs faster than Patrick Pinkney or Brett Clay you're high. I mean its pretty basic.

And who says we need a dual threat QB in the first place.

Go read the roster. I think you're mixing up your players. Seriously.

Now, moving on. Good luck to you guys tomorrow v. UCF. I think it'll be a pretty good game. Both teams are in similar places in my mind.

I will say this. If O'Brien gets that O line rollin at any point, you guys are going to be a serious threat to beat anyone. But I don't really see that happening anytime soon.

As I was driving down I-40...there was a fuck load of ECU Pirate cars heading to teh VT game..I passed atleast 20 cars..decked out in football gear..heading to Blacksburg...Ill pull for the pirates when their not playing my Wolfpack, and I admire how well there fans travel.

THey still dont beat the huge ass crowd we had when my buds and I went down to Tallahasse a few years back and beat FSU in the backyard..it was PRICELESS..completely PRICELESS ...GO PACK!!

Only if you are an ECU fan. I was at Carolina's game this weekend and they suck ass. Quite lucky they played JMU as an opener. Their offensive line is terrible so they have absolutely no running game--JMU stopped them easy. QB is shaky as hell. Defense wasn't too bad, but then again, they were playing JMU who just gave them the ball a few times, so it's hard to judge the defense really.

ECU should be the shit out of them unless they pull a Michigan.

Kass blows anyways....i was never impressed with him

Pickney was deff the better of the 3 qb's who played on saturday....Clay, Pickney, Harris played qb...

i wouldnt say that there is 5 qb's on ECU who could start at NCSU...

i cant wait to see if McFadden ever pans out...(he replaced Leak at Independance) and if Cox will ever be eligible....though i believe they were talking about him not playing QB

some people need to learn to read as to what i mean by dual threat, i dont mean it in the sense of running and passing ala mike vick or pat white.

I mean it in the sense of he can throw it deep well and dump it down short as well also.

i clearly said thats how i meant it.
