I think the real question here is where's the cheapest place that won't do a crappy job.

go to the framing place inside the building at the farmer's market. We just got two pieces framed, and they were super cheap ($70 and $90) and look great.

take it somewhere to get some ideas on how to frame it, bring it home, read up, do it yourself and save a lot of money.

michaels has always done an awesome job on my stuff- and they always have the coupons (already mentioned) in the weekly ads.

Why is framing so ridiculously expensive?

It's molding for crying out loud.

Yeah, seriously. And I asked about getting a custom matting for something like a 1' by 3' rectangle and it was going to cost $50. It's just heavy-duty paper.

I had my super big puzzle done at Frame Masters in Cary. They did a good job.

There's a store in Cameron Village. Next to 10000 villages, the italian restaurant, and near the ABC store.
They do a FANTASTIC job and the owner is great.
I had a few prints framed there and the frames are gorgeous. we get compliments on them all the time.

They have a nice variety so you could spend a little or a lot.
If you're going for a quality job and want it to be preserved and last then check them out.

The prints I got framed there would have been hard to find/replace so I paid a bit more to have them done right.
