So, this boy dropped my camera Friday night and now when I turn it on it says Cybershot then Access then "turn the power off and on again." I can preview the pictures I already took but my lens is stuck out and it gives me that message. I have a Sony Cybershot DSC-W70. Is there anything to do to fix this or am I SOL?

sounds like the lense mechanism got stuck. try gently twisting the housing back and forth pushing in or pulling out on it. i dropped my camera years ago (luckily it landed on carpet, so no damage) and it knocked the lens a bit. took about 10 minutes of gently twisting to get it back in track.

I thought this thread was going to be exploring the notion that turning on / off electrical components shortens their lifespan.

Can we talk about that instead?

^^^^ agreed

on that track, y'all remember back when it supposedly did more damage to hard drives to turn them on and off than it did to just leave them running? something about how old HDDs kept the headers engaged or whatever, while new ones don't, so you save life on the drives if you turn them off when you're not using them (standby, hibernate, or off at night)
