My DS has been sitting on the shelf untouched for about 2 months or so. I recently was going to take it with me to the auto shop so I could play it while my car was being worked on and I figured I would charge it to full. I plugged it in with the regular charger and bam, the LED charging light didn't come on. The battery still has a charge and the DS turns on perfectly fine, there are no noticeable problems with gameplay or anything and both screens are just as bright as the day I got it. It hasn't been dented or dropped or anything (to my knowledge) and as far as I can tell aside from the charging thing it is working fine. So I have two questions:

1) Is there a way I can find out whether or not it is the DS or the charging cable that is the problem without just buying a new cable?

2) If it does turn out to be the DS that is the problem, do you guys think I would be able to get away with trading it in at EB Games for one of those new sleek red/black DS lites (I've been thinking about doing this anyway)?

I guess there is also the possibility that the charging light just doesn't work anymore for some reason. The DS is an original one, I bought back when they launched in 2005.

Let the battery die, try to charge it, bring it to someone elses house and try to charge it with their cord.

2. Sometimes they do a thorough check, sometimes they don't. However if you followed step 1, the bat would be dead and it wouldn't turn on, they wouldn't take it.

^Yeah that is why I didn't want to drain the battery. Nobody else I know here has a DS.

try a new AC adpater. For whatever reason, DS chargers crap out fairly regularly. I used to sell these last year around Christmas, and got a handful of complaints from people that their AC chargers weren't working.

go into a gamestop, ask if they have any ds systems that are no good that have a charger with them and see if they will let you swap out a charger.
