Zelda (NES): My mom and I ripped through that game twice. It was awesome.

Gauntlet Legends (PS1): Dad loved it, because he had a nostalgia trip everytime he picked up the controller.

Akuji: The Heartless (PS1): For some reason, this game was the only one that ever interested my stepmother. She loved watching me play it more than she played herself, though.

BattleToads (Genesis): My aunt fell in love with this game when I was young. Everytime I spent time at my cousin's house, we'd fire it up and take turns.

My dad would always watch me play Zelda, then try and start his own character and play. Half of the time he would ask me for help and what he was supposed to do...I also don't think he ever completed one...

My mom was ALL about Dr. Mario...she could kill anyone at that game...pretty crazy

Hell, I've actually played some Multiplayer Halo 2 with my dad as recently as a couple of months ago. And he's 60.

We went through Zelda together when I was a kid. Later we played Myst at the same time, but different games. We've played some of the wireless games on the new Super Mario Bros on DS (he has his own DS Lite and PSP, and also a modded Xbox) We also played wireless multiplayer Tiger Woods and Need for Speed on the PSP. I think that's about it.

Seriously, I hate it when older people believe video games have no worth whatsoever. My dad did take interest in the Menacer for the Sega Genesis because it game with some game where you could blow up tanks and planes and shit.

The only thing they thought video games were good for was hurting my grades and they still think that.

Trying to think back I dont think I ever played any video games with my parents. My mom used to sit and watch me when i'd play zelda or chrono trigger/cross or FFVII just cause she thought they were pretty cool.

My dad and I would play Jeopardy or something that didn't really involve much action. My dad never has been big into video games...except for one..

Super Black Bass for the SNES. He used to be so into that game that i'd come home and he'd be posted up 5 feet in front of the tv and would scream when he lost a "lunker". He was so into it he kept his passwords in a notepad in his top right desk drawer.

non. I was the first and only person in my family to play any video games. However my much older cousin's husband was the one who got me into SimCity (original) when i'd visit them in Cali. So i guess you could say simcity.

Question is, what will we be like with our kids? Considering we are the first generation to really play video games as kids. I'm guessing most of us are going to frag the hell out of our kids in halo 10 and Counter Strike: Source 2

my dad loves some flight sim games. he was a FA-18 NFO and cant get enough of just sitting there flying the thing for 3 hours, hitting the drop bomb button, flying back for 3 hours and landing on the carrier at night.

i liked taking off, turning around and lighting up the carrier, it was way to boring flying to the enemy

my dad used to play real sports baseball with me on the atari 2600, and maybe tanks. the nes was too complicated for him, but my mom would play super mario bros and duck hunt. my mom also used to love tetris. when we get together now we'll play jeopardy or wheel of fortune on whatever happens to be hooked up to the television. my mom also plays various word/puzzle flash games on the internet.

Mom

Super Mario Bros. 2 - the only game my mom ever beat
Tetris Attack - I got her into this one
Mario Kart - We played that some

Dad

Street Fighter II - I remember he played it a little
Command and Conquer - He really dug this one
Chessmaster - complete waste of money, we had a lot more fun playing real chess
F-Zero - He really liked this one a lot too

Of course, now the ultimate is Wii Sports. Just about everyone gets into that.

Mariokart - SNES
Twisted Metal 2 - PSX
Goldeneye - N64
my dad is the man.
he was really good at SMB, pretty good at TM2... never got the hang of the joysticks and stuff with Goldeneye

I used to hear my dad playing Super Mario Brothers in the playroom outside my door and I would get out of bed to tell him what to do watch him play. I think I was 8 at the time.

I used to play video games all the time, but honestly, they are a complete waste of time. Just like jigsaw puzzles, they give people who have nothing else to do something to do....and while they are entertaining and you may feel a sense of accomplishment by completeing one, they are a waste of time.

but my dad and I would always play the original mario brothers game and duck hunt all the time. we would also play pong and donkey kong for atari....

My mom is like that. I think she still thinks video games are for kids and hopes I grow out of them.

My dad doesn't really play video games much, except this really old version of Microsoft Golf. I bet he would love Tiger Woods.

My mom would play some video games. She could beat Zelda for NES without any help and to this day she still loves that game. Asked me to set up the NES when I get home for her to play it, haha, she watched me playing TP for the Wii and was asking me all types of questions about it, haha.

She also use to play some Tetris Attack, her and my older brother would play me, it wasn't much of a contest, haha.

One time, I brought Tetris with me when I spent the night at a friend's house. His mom literally stole the nintendo and played it all night without sleep. Then, she kept putting off taking me home the next day.

Anything that is a hobby could be considered a waste of time.

sure you say you are going to dominate your kid, but go back and play some of those NES and SNES games you grew up on and used to easily beat...they are hard as shit now

If my kids get into video games, I have a feeling i'll be the one losing...besides, it'll all be motion anyway and a 7 year old kid has more energy than a 36 year old man, lol

^They were hard as shit because you couldn't save the games. Every time you played you had to go through them level by level, eventually to the point where you could tear through the first ones without even thinking. Have any of you guys ever played the original Altered Beast? I had this game for the Master System (my brother had the NES and I got stuck with the Master System) and it was hard as hell. I fired it up on an emulator a few years ago and after playing for a week or so the first level was cake but the rest were really hard.
