"There were about 400 fans on hand when the game started Wednesday afternoon and the announced attendance was 10,121. The Marlins have the smallest total attendance in the majors.

"It was a good game, but long, hot and drawn out," Jacobs said. "Finally, we got a couple hits and put it together. I'm sure there was plenty of people at home that saw it on TV.""

At least most of them probably got a foul ball.

And what a bunch of fuckups for getting rid of Girardi.

I would love to go to a game when the stadium is that empty. You could talk shit on the opposing players and hear what they have to say back to you. Plus you'd probably get a foul ball.

I bet the Marlins had more people working at the stadium than actual fans.

They may not have a lot of attendance, but at least they got some rings unlike a lot of teams in the majors can say in the past 10 years.

The most undeserving franchise/fanbase to win a major American sports championship ever, let alone two.

If the owners had a pair, they would force Jeffrey Loria to either sell the team or be demoted to the Triple-A International League for lack of competence and support. F*** the lawsuit.

There are much better things to do in Miami during the day than go to a fucking baseball game.

Yup, the rest of the story about that game is a fan was thrown out for talking shit to an ump.

Not sure how true it is, but they mentioned it on ATH, and Tony didn't seem to be joking about it.

Most everyone that is a baseball fan in Florida are transplants and are either a Yankees, Mets, Cubs, Red Sox, or Cardinals fan and care nothing about the Marlins and the Devil Rays. Those teams' attendances are driven by who they're playing. This week, it was the Washington Nationals.

See Bill Simmons' photo montage he put together when he attended a Red Sox "home game" at Tampa.

read:

Florida fans are bandwagoneers that like the teams that the media incessantly shoves down our throats.

^ or maybe it's because the marlins, the state's oldest baseball team, has only been around 14 years

I love going to Marlins games. Get good seats for next to nothing.

When the Univ of Miami had its "Employee/Student Day" at the Marlins game a few weeks ago, I think that was the biggest crowd they've had in years. And half of those people were there to see Blues Traveler play a set after the game.

Much to the credit of the FEW Marlins fans at that game, when Bonds hit his homer- the fan threw it back. You gotta give some credit to those few Marlins fans. Its gotta be lonely and painful to be like 1 of 400 fans.

Unfortunately, parking is expensive, its a pain to get there from Miami, and there are a million other things to do here.

Yes REALLY, smartass.

$15-$30 to park the last three years I've been down here. Thats more than a ticket to the game. Parking was free at the "University Day" last month. Thats the only game I've been to all year.

Still, its a pain in the ass to drive out there. Especially on a weeknight.
