http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/si_blogs/basketball/ncaa/2007/09/all-historic-venue-ncaa-tournament.html Luke Winn's column provides interesting fodder, although I disagree with some of his choices. What are you top 10 historic bball venues (whether or not they are still standing or actively used)?
I'll come back and post mine later.

Quote : | "* Play-In Game Reynolds Coliseum, Raleigh, N.C.: This art-deco relic, a glaring omission from the initial roster, is the blog commenters' write-in vote. I'm open to moving the play-in game from Dayton to Tobacco Road -- and there's no better place for it than Reynolds, which the Wolfpack's men's team abandoned in 2000 for the more posh RBC Center. It's considered by some to be the birthplace of big-time ACC basketball, hosting the first 13 conference tournaments. Forty-one NCAA-tourney games have been played there, but none since the East Regional in 1982. N.C. State plays one "heritage" game there each year ... but this on-campus jewel warrants more action." |

Honorable Mention- The Pit, Albequerque, NM (fairly intimate setting, host to some great tournament games including NC State's 1983 Final Four run)
10. Gallagher-Iba Arena- Stillwater, OK (great home atmosphere, a fair amount of history) 9. Pauley Pavilion- UCLA (host to a lot of good basketball, even if not as good an arena or atmosphere as some of the others) 8. Rupp Arena- Lexington, KY (Rupp, Kentucky, enough said, just not as intimate and noisy as some of the others) 7. Cameron Indoor- Durham, NC (tons of notoriety and atmosphere over the years, but essentially a replica of Reynolds, and came on later in the game) 6. Assembly Hall- Indiana (so much history, Indiana deserves some mention on this list) 5. Cow Palace- San Fran/Daly City, CA (witness to the great USF teams with Bill Russell) 4. Cole Field House- College Park, MD (this place was rockin' for so long) 3. Madison Square Garden- NYC (not directly identified with college hoops, but has been the site of many big games for so long as the nation's biggest showcase) 2. Allen Fieldhouse- Lawrence, KS (great atmosphere, intimate setting, still a decent sized arena) 1. Reynolds Coliseum (maybe I'm a bit of a homer, but this was the cradle of what became ACC hoops) 9/14/2007 8:40:05 AM |

If you read through the comments, Reynolds was actually left off.
People started complaining that it wasn't on there and so the guy added it later.
Boo on him.
Reynolds was the envy of just about every school when it was built. Lots o' history there
(And I'm so tired of hearing about the freakin 'Cameron Crazies'.)
