First Trailer Out

I was really bummed about this movie when I heard about it being remade, but after seeing the trailer it really looks like Haneke will be faithful to his original. By mentioning why I mean faithful, I would risk mentioning spoilers, but for those who have seen the movie you know what I mean. There are certain parts of the original Funny Games that made it a true horror film and confused, disgusted, and shocked audiences when they saw it. It seems like Haneke will be keeping these elements in the film.

The Wikipedia.org entries also show promise:

Quote :
"In June 2007 the first advance viewings to critics have been given of this remake. The first reviews indicate that Haneke's remake has met the same standards of shock as his original German spoken version.

As Haneke makes use of implied violence in scenes rather than a graphic depiction, essentially leaving it to audiences to fill in the details themselves, the MPAA-rating of this film may be contentious to some if it receives a similar response to the German original, especially in regard to other contemporary films where violence is depicted graphically yet obtain lower ratings."

Personally, I don't give a shit whether this gets an R or an NC-17 (I really hope they aren't talking about a PG-13 here because that would make mean my own suicide).

It'll be interesting to see how much reaction this movie gets considering the upgrade to a more well known cast (Ulrich Mühe was in the original for those that have seen The Lives of Others). I guess it's kinda hard to discuss the movie without giving anything away but I did feel like the movie cheated to shock the viewer like Haneke wanted.

"The production crew used the blueprints from the 1997 original. The houseset in the 2007 American remake will have the same proportions as that of the 1997 set."

Set for limited release in the USA on February 15, 2008.

I had to build and break this movie down yesterday for a screening so I tried to see if Watts gets totally naked in that one scene but I lost track of time and missed the scene.
