NCAA doesn't punish the Carolina's; Ohio State's, Florida's, Notre Dame's, and the Duke's. Those punishments are reserved for the less prestigious schools.

from the article, it doesn't sound like that violation is really a big deal....

but i heard that this kind of a violation (playing basketball with a recruit) is how we got on probation during the DT recruitment. I think PackBacker would know for sure...

with us it was an assistant coach playing a pickup game with DT on his recruiting visit.


with them it sounds like if there was ANY pickup game it should be a violation, just talking to them shouldnt be because as it says they are students and it could have been a "casual meeting" on the street or whatever.


still the NCAA should look into it and certainly UNC report it no matter what.

good thing is this kid had the honesty to report it, either that or he hates UNC as well.

UNC should get in trouble for this, but they won't. Also IMO rules like that suck ass, but they need to be in place to make things equal in terms of recruiting.

Imagine if we tried this with our recruits. They would be ballin with stars such as Julius Hodge, Cedric Simmons, and Josh Powell. 95% of recruits would have never heard of any of them.

unc-ch did this when they were recruiting Richard Hendrix as well. He told me on his official visit they played some 3-3 with some former players. Of course at the time May was still there and I can't remember who the former players that also played with them.. I'll have to ask Richard next time I talk to him.


But nothing will come of this. unc-ch will "police" themselves and the NCAA will say thats good enough.

It has happened to us and it cost us a championship. We didn't like it but we accepted our punishment. What will happen to UNC Not a Damn thing.

I depends on what they were doing. I believe that if the three of them were giving them a sales pitch then its not trivial. They are using the rules to their advantage. I think we should get Wendel Murphy to meet with our players and when he leaves just drop a key to a new car and just walk out. That way he didn't give the player the car he simply lost his key and the ball player found it.

yeah the reason that state fans are pissed about that is that an assistant played pickup with DT and it kept us out of the postseason in 1973, AND because it was supposedly none other than Bill Gutheridge who narced on us

and now that the shoe is on the other foot, we know that their "punishment" will be the loss of a UNC volleyball scholarship or some such. or they can't paint ramses' horns blue for a year.
