can this administration get any more sketch as fuck?

http://today.reuters.com/news/articlenews.aspx?type=politicsNews&storyid=2007-09-23T200614Z_01_N23231267_RTRUKOC_0_US-USA-IRAN-CHENEY.xml

Quote :
"WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Vice President Dick Cheney had at one point considered asking Israel to launch limited missile strikes at an Iranian nuclear site to provoke a retaliation, Newsweek magazine reported on Sunday.

The news comes amid reports that Israel launched an air strike against Syria this month over a suspected nuclear site.

Citing two unidentified sources, Newsweek said former Cheney Middle East adviser David Wurmser told a small group several months ago that Cheney was considering asking Israel to strike the Iranian nuclear site at Natanz.

A military response by Iran could give Washington an excuse to then launch airstrikes of its own, Newsweek said.

Wurmser's wife, Meyrav Wurmser of the neoconservative Hudson Institute think tank, told Newsweek the claims were untrue.

Wurmser left Cheney's office last month, the magazine reported. The steady departure of neoconservative hawks from the administration has also helped tilt the balance against war, it said.

Washington has been pursuing diplomatic efforts to persuade Iran to alter its nuclear program. It has refused to take military options off the table, even U.S. resources are taxed by having 169,000 troops in Iraq.

Although some intelligence sources say Iran is years away from nuclear capability, Israel believes that military action may be necessary as early as 2008, Newsweek said.

Israel has declined to comment on the reported air strike, while Syria has denied receiving North Korean nuclear aid and said it could retaliate for the September 6 violation of its territory."

i mean it makes me lol that they actually consider this type of stuff

ok i hope this title is better...i wanted "cheney to israel: bomb iran and cause them to retaliate"

I mean Cheney needs a way to provide more defense contracts to his buddies in Haliburton.

Besides it would help the president's approval rating if we had to rally the american people to aid our friend Israel from the attack of the Evil Islamic Terrorist Supporting Fascist nation of Iran

Shouldn't that (asking Israel to launch missiles at Iran) be the President's job?

^^Cheney has been noted to be the most powerful and pro-active VP in US history. If it wasn't for Cheney there wouldn't be enough support to keep the troops in Iraq/Afghan. You can think of him as a co-President rather then a VP...which, again, is the first time ever in US history to have a VP like that.

^ I'm actually reading a pretty interesting book called The One Percent Doctrine that tries to explain Cheney's actions as maintaining the president's plausible deniability of any issue that could come back to bite him. Cheney cut his teeth during the Ford era and always felt that Nixon had done nothing wrong in Watergate aside from knowing too much about the lesser affairs of the republican party. In this sense he feels justified in conducting sordid business clandestinely as long as it is done in pursuit of the same goals as the administration's foreign policy. In the same vein, it was Cheney's office that produced the yellow cake from Niger comment prior to the the invasion of Iraq.

It's a decent read and it does a good job of avoiding painting anyone as a villain, which is a problem I have with political commentary as of late. While there may be some truth in what it has to say, it's kind of hard to swallow that his entire foreign policy doctrine was forged by one incident in presidential history.

BTW, I usually avoid political reads that have been New York Times bestsellers, but I was stuck at the Miami airport and needed something to read.

Cheney is kinda like Darth Sidious doing all the shady shit behind the scenes in Star Wars Episode II. Bush is more like Count Dooku the public face and figurehead leader of the droid seperatist forces.

I'm down with Cheney == Darth Sidious...

but I think Bush is more like a cross between Princess Padme

and Jar Jar Binks.
