I've got a few people wanting some web design work done, and I don't really have the time/skill to take care of it myself...so I'm looking for someone to refer them to. Who here has done contract-based web design before? (aka you've had customers/successful jobs before)

It would help if I know you, but either way I need to see a portfolio or something before making a decision. PM me with links to your site/portfolio and information about your experience and we'll talk.

its a simple flash site, but the transition animation is godfully slow. When ever I do flash sites, I try to keep transition as fast as possible that is subtle and nice (.5 seconds max). Also, when coding, you can use a number of action scripting ways to do all of the animations for you so if you need to update the site, it takes almost no time to change the animation to accommodate it. Takes a bit of time to design and implement, but once you have the code, its easy to copy and past and 'customize' it for different uses. You want loading times to be fast and shouldn't be distracting. Having the load % animation on the side, out of the way is usually good.

The best flash site I did was for my work place (of which we just took down to revert back to a simple HTML page and have plans on upgrading to a much more manageable CMS site), which I ended up redoing twice, with the 2nd one taking more than 3 months to develop. Everyone liked it, but turned out that it was too flashy for most people as the people who frequent our website were on P3's and older. Flash is also not search friendly, unless you import you text from another file (such as an html, xml, or txt file).

^are you critiquing my site design or helping synapse? Don't de-rail a thread by critiquing everyones site thats posted in here. Leave that for another thread or PM's.

critique yours and giving some good pointers to whoever takes my advice. This is what I've learned when working with flash sites and I've been doing it since 97. Damn, that's a long time now. I feel old now.

^^ ditto

that said, of course, there are a number of great flash sites out there and they all have their places...i'm also not terribly experienced in flash, so maybe that's why i don't prefer it

the girl in Golovko's site is pretty...like, girl next door pretty...just saying

I'm 22, but I've been doing flash sites since middle school. My bro is a graphic artist and he's 7 yrs older than me and that's how I got flash 3 back then. Flash is good for showcasing. I use it mainly for flash tutorials, ad's, cd popup browser and a simple product showcase program lately. There's some faults with the new cs3 flash that's been pissing me off, primarily the fcommand function.

Flash 1 came out in 1997...and i'd hardly count being 12 years old as experience Plus flash was so different back then.

Flash 1 came out in 1996. flash 3 was 1998, my bad. Still, that's a long ass time. Flash 4 is when it really got popular and I started to build up clan websites.

playing with shit in middle school does not count as experience.

put your work up here instead of critiquing Golvokos.

sure it does, provided i learned something from it. Basic flash coding that lays down the foundation and comprehension for future coding and experience. Who here claims they've been working on computers since they were 5? What about people who have been working on cars since they were 8? What about people who have been practicing blowing glass with their dad as an apprenticeship since they were 12? What about kids who learn Calculus in middle school because they were in accelerated programs compared to college students taking the same class? Does it make it any less comprehensive?

And "I've been doing it since 97 (which really is 98)" is really a vague statement could mean either work or play. While it may not be construed as "proper work experience" for resume purposes, but its a mentionable note that I've been familiar with the program since 98.

yeah, really...i mean, there's nothing wrong with critiquing someone's work using constructive criticism, provided you aren't an ass about what perspective you're coming from...if you're critiquing as a generic end-user (which i feel i would be, since i don't know flash worth jack), that's one thing...to critique as a fellow "designer", you really ought to have your work up, too, because, for all we know, your stuff looks like a 4-year-old did it...or it could be amazing...either way, don't act like you know what you're talking about unless you're willing to back it up

I posted the flash website last year for critique here, but we just took it down. I just uploaded the flash site on my website now. Some of the links may not work since its being hosted on my service and not our company server.

recent/in development projects that use our own CMS and E-commerce applications:

http://www.ztancsu.org

a couple other side-projects I threw together while mike is busy coding the hell out of our software:

our website has more examples from older clients (we need to do an update)

bumping to add another project and help him get more responses.

Its not finished because we decided to use our CMS, but this was the original concept we had.

the company "official boards" that used to make forums for all kinds of companies and bands etc. they had the SAME 'temporary' page for 4 years at officialboard.com it basically said the same thing "officialboard.com is coming soon!". It said that until they finally took all their servers down
