Cheap place to stay in DC? What's "cheap"?
I guess you can try priceline or something like that - but the last thing you wanna do is try to find the cheapest place and get caught in SouthEast Proper, pretending that all those sounds you're hearing around you are just kids playing with fireworks. 9/28/2007 10:27:03 AM |

Americana Hotel in Crystal City. Looks like it was pulled straight outta the 60's, minimal amenities, but it's (relatively) cheap, clean, in a good/safe neighborhood, and is < 5 minutes walk from a metro stop.

You could try MD or VA if you don't mind driving into DC. 9/29/2007 12:20:32 PM |

Not sure what you consider to be "cheap" in the DC area but we stayed at the Holiday Inn in Alexandria for 120 a night, we split it 4 ways and had 2 queen size beds. The hotel is right on the metro stop. Anything less than that and you're going to wish you had spent more money to stay in a better area. 9/29/2007 1:07:37 PM |

Lafayette Park across from the White House has a lot of safe benches, but they usually get claimed around sundown. Watch out for homos cruising through looking for male prostitutes. Just tell one or two of them, "I've got a knife, faggot" and they'll leave you alone after that.
if you want latenight, try any of the shopping plazas along M Street NW in Georgetown district. Security guards will run you out give you a courtesy wakeup call around 7am.
If you're really hard up for a shower and a meal, the Central Union Mission at 13th and R Streets NW will hook you up. you have to line up damn early though (6pm?), and be prepared to sit through an excruciatingly long Hellfire and Brimstone sermon. The group shower with a bunch of dirty bums is a bit unnerving.
