I have seen one off a newer Discovery, the bolts needed a hex driver. posting the model, year and displacement will help alot when the resident rover mechanic comes along.

its a hex head, 8mm I believe, its easiest to get at it with a 3ft extention with a wobble end. youll need to take the heat shield off first though, its a 10mm bolt through the motor mount bracket. remove that bolt and grab the heat shield with a big pair of pliers and rip that shit out.

but most importantly, why do you think its the starter??

Question for optimus:

My boss has two landrovers, one is around a 97 and the other a few years older, I think. Anyways, both of them have a second or so delay from turning the key to the start position before anything happens.. and one of them, when hot, usually won't turn over at all. Sounds like it needs a new starter to me but I don't know much about them. So yeah, anything common to cause this on them?

When you turn the key over there is a big delay, when it does begin to turn its very slow.

Aready replaced battery.
