Does anyone around Raleigh have an 03 or 04 Cobra with aftermarket exhaust on it? I would like to be able to hear some different sounds before I buy something for my car. I am looking to get headers, mid-pipe, and exhaust. Does anyone have any suggestions on what combination to go with. (shorty vs long tubes, cats vs no cats, etc.)
Also, I have a clunking noise on my car. I know the Cobras have a problem with the IRS, but I'm not sure if this is coming from that or not. It sounds like it could be coming from the front of the car also. If anyone could maybe look at my car or give me some ideas that would be nice.
Thanks. 10/5/2007 10:45:15 PM |

IRS Cobras are notorious for haveing "the clunk". Its just slop in the IRS between the differential and the halfshafts. you usually hear it when shifting gears or putting it in gear. It was very noticable on the 99s(my car) but got better as the years went on.
a note on the headers... 03/04 cobras have different shape ports on the heads than 99/01s. Some compaines just make a "best fit" header and advertise it as 99-04 cobra headers. I would stay away from these. try to pick a header thats been made for your car. also be aware that some headers will allow you to take the transmission out of the car without taking the headers off while some you have to loosen or even take the headers off to take the tranny out.
midepipes are pretty much all the same. Choose based on your sound preference. H gives the traditional deep rumble of a muscle car. X pipes give more of a raspy exotic sound(as exotic as a mustang gets anyways).
Mufflers... chambered mufflers again give you that deep muscle car sound but rob you of more horsepower. Straight through mufflers (magnaflow, bassani, etc...) yeild more power but again give you a higher pitched more exotic sound.
This is my post for this year, enjoy. 10/5/2007 11:36:21 PM |

bassani. get a pulley and a good tune on that thing too, it'll be a whole new car. 10/7/2007 12:49:40 AM |

We put an exhaust on a customer's cobra a month or so ago.. sounded incredible.. I can't remember for the life of me what combo he had, though. 10/7/2007 1:07:22 AM |

there's a shop beside slowback that builds mustangs but they actually use a good looking body style (60's/70's). fox body mustangs look like civics on steroids, absolutely no creative design whatsoever. 10/8/2007 2:34:51 PM |

you dont need design creativity when you can lift the front wheels off the ground. 10/8/2007 2:37:36 PM |

Oh shut the hell up. I said 70's because I know I like the 1969 version and I was simply guessing that it continued into the early-mid 70's. I also did not know they did that shitty-ass fox body style that early. Why it lasted so long the world may never know. I've avoided nit-picking you because i'm not the one to start fights and I also have to interact with you professionaly (when my inspection machine goes down). You knew what I meant as did everybody else. Don't get all buttsore that I picked on your ride. 10/8/2007 11:57:23 PM |
