This could be it's own reality show. The bidders will be:

Angels - have been reluctant to make the 'big move' since Vlad. Could this be the one?
Dodgers - built around young budding superstars and pitching. This big market team can afford him.
Yankees - have publicly said if he opts out they won't pursue. As long as old George is kicking, this is a lie.
Red Sox - Been there, done that. Lowell will likely re-sign and Lugo isn't going anywhere. Longshot.
Cubs - Trib is throwing $$ around like it's nothing and then plan to sell the team. Possibility.
Giants - need marketable superstar to replace Bonds. However, after giving $texas for Zito, where will the needed $$$/years come from.
Mets - always a wild-card for A-Rod. Grew up an avid Mets fan and offered sizable discount to Mets before signing with Texas. Could be very real player if A-Rod gives year discount. I can see the Mets offering a 5-6 year, $30M per deal. Will it be enough?

My guess: Angels.

I agree with the Angels

I think A-Rod and Boston clash too much even though the Sox are one of the few teams that can afford him

The Mets...why would you want to play for the 2nd best team in the biggest city in the country when you're already playing for the best team?

They were his favorite team growing up and he has said his dream was to play for them.

Why would anyone choose to play in a shit-stained stadium in a fourth-rate midwestern city where the city hero was a fat fuck who beat his wife?

I'm going to rub one out AT the mound at Shea Stadium if we get A-Rod and Johan this offseason.

I can't see him staying with the Yankees.

Some team like the Dodgers I think. A big-market team that has been stuck in mediocrity for awhile (Cubs don't count).

Jesus fucking christ. When I saw the the title of this thread, then who made it I said to myself....

"Self, there is no way NyM would even possibly think the Mets will either go after him, or even have a chance of signing him"

Sure enough, I click, and to my shagrin, you actually had them listed.

If its always been his dream, he would have been playing there by now.

He will never play for the Mets, so just end that dream right now kid.

He is either going to re-sign with the Yanks or go to the Cubs. That rumor about what they were gonna offer him didn't come out of no where. And its common knowledge he wants to play for Lou.

It saddens me as a life long Braves fan, that A-Rod, arguably THE BEST player in the past 10 years has hit the FA market twice in said years, and the Braves have never been mentioned in the running for him. Thank you AOL for fucking up what was once a great and very succesful franchise. Ted would have never let this guy get away from him twice.

Corporate ownership in basbeball needs to be done away with. Worst fucking thing ever.

^ I know GN! I have never had to spell the word before, so I didn't feel like looking it up.

Having A-Rod sure wouldn't hurt them. And when a multi billion $ company owns you, you would think they would throw a little more into the team. I think that is one reason the Braves attendance has been down so much the past years. Ever since Ted lost control of the team, the corporates, have only done enough to compete, they have not done enough to win. brings me back to this. A few years ago, I think it was around 2003, AOL spent around $15mil on commercials during the SuperBowl but let Sheffield leave instead of signing him when he had been by far their best player the year before. My years and #s could be a little off, but you get my point. Paying $25mil to A-Rod would obviously help the Braves, because if a company didn't own them, it wouldn't be an issue.

It just pisses me off as a Braves fan to see so many great free agents hit the market the past 7 or 8 years and the Braves not sign ANY of them. They seem to only make trades, then let the players they trade for walk after they refuse to pay them their market value.

i hate corporate ownership as much as the next guy, but not even billionaire ted would blow $25 million on a-rod, the money would be much better spent elsewhere

and a-rod, as awesome as he is, has been shit when it counts

i was gonna make a weak 'hell, i'd rather have a jeff blauser than an a-rod' rant, but then i looked up blauser's numbers

dude had a career postseason line of .148/.303/.259

Not really putting it past the METS, I am putting it past A-Rod. He is obviously chasing a ring. You would not leave the Yanks to go to the Mets. Has a player of his caliber ever even done this? NY or Chicago? I cant recall a player in the prime of their career leaving the better and more popular team for the cities bottom feeder. Their manager situation is hilarious, their team is totally out of whack, and they are 2nd teir in NY. Like I said, if his life long dream was to play there, he would be there by now. Cubs are gonna get him, if not, then he stays a Yankee.

And yes, I know the White Sox have been better, but you know what I meant. The WS are shit in Chicago.

That is one team that NEEDS to be moved.

All trolling aside, why is that funny? They are mentioned nearly every time the A-Rod Sweepstakes is. And which NYC team has been closer to a world championship the past 2 years?

I already said I don't think he'll be a Met but to act like they won't be involved in this is just flat dumb...

Ernie... You act like paying Beltran 13.5M isn't worth it... some stupid team is going to pay Andruw .220 Jones upwards of $20M per...

he's over 30, i wouldn't be surprised to see his numbers slowly regress to his '05 totals (no hatin)

This is a wasted thread as he will stay with the Yanks make 150 mil or so for 5 years and him and Jeter will sail into into the sunset together...especially since they will have the starting rotation next year of .....Wang - Andy P, Hughes, Joba, and Ian Kennedy......

He's going to the Royals y'all.

Basically, it'll be a one man show, since that's all they can afford. He'll play all the positions, pitch, and catch. Can't wait to see his offensive numbers. He'll have a good 40 - 50 at bats a game.

The Braves were the Runner up for the last ARod Sweepstakes, if Boras hadn't gone directly to the owner of the Rangers above GM John Hart's head. He signed for the 252 Mil and his next highest offer was 126 Mil from the Braves.

Ted wouldn't have paid for him and Ted SHOULDN'T have paid for him. He's a great player, arguably the greatest current and, by the time he retires, I'm certain he'll be the greatest player that ever lived.

However, I wouldn't want to sacrifice so much for one guy. We were having trouble paying Andruw's salary while he's hitting .216. We'd be paying ARods for .188 in the playoffs.

NyM410 - you are probably correct.....but that is my hope....we will see...need to get some young blood in that old pitching staff...Lose Clemmens, & Moose.... both had great careers with Roger arguably being one of the best pitcher all time....but it's time for them to go.

Great line about A-Rod's futility in the playoffs today from Bayless. In his last 59 playoff ABs, he has had 38 runners on base and driven in exactly ZERO runners. Good God that is just plain awful. Even Rafael Belliard could have managed an to drive in atleast one person.

Also if the Mets get A-Rod, I will laugh because it'll probably make their team worse. If they get Santana, I will cry because it will make their team significantly better.
