nothing i have will ouput 1080p besides my upconverting dvd player

directv is in 1080i, so i couldn't justify getting 1080p

xbox 360 will output 1080p, and i see no point in getting a new tv unless i can get 1080p, since my current tv puts out 1080i.

i have a 27" tube.

I'll bite when I can go to 1080p for $400.

I like big changes, not little ones.

i have a 30' crt-hdtv that displays 1080i, so it no sense in upgrading if it not better than what i already have, and not worth the hassle of getting use to a new tv if the change is not big enough.

a 5 year old tv? stop whining! my tube tv has more curve than a victoria's secret model and is pushing 20 years old. also the power button doesn't work and the screen has a tight tilt but it is only apparent in widescreen movies.

however, i have my eyes on a 40" sony lcd 1080p to replace it as soon as i find out the tax situation.

I've had a 32" 720p olevia lcd for a couple years that I got new for $516. Doesn't seem like a /great/ deal but I've thoroughly enjoyed my tv.

contrast ratio for this tv is too low for me. i go for 1:5000 at least. this is really what makes the price different in hdtv that are almost identical in all other respects.

i thought contrast ratios meant shit across vendors.

since there is no standard.

i know there is not a standard, but the better the contrast ratio the sharper the picture. that tv has shit for contrast ratio.
