It'd be nice if they legalized, taxed, and managed drug consumption. The heavier stuff could be limited, just buy it directly from the pharmacy and put your name down.
If they just mandated that the government grow the stuff themselves in controlled facilities, and then flooded the market, most of the lucrative criminal moneymaking would be done with and the criminals would lose their means of income.
Then all the law enforcement elements being used to fight the war on drugs could go back to fighting the war on crime, or actually enforce immigration (or something useful). 10/16/2007 5:41:43 PM |

Not to mention that ending the war on crime would intrinsically reduce crime from black market drug distributors thus aiding the war on crime10/16/2007 5:46:40 PM |

thus aiding the war on terror because all proceeds from drugs go to A-rab terrorists. 10/16/2007 7:10:18 PM |

Just because you cannot stop a crime doesn't mean that you just give up. If that were true, we'd give up enforcing all criminal laws on the book. I'm sick of the legalize drugs movement in this country. 10/17/2007 12:52:53 AM |

I haven't heard a single sensible argument for keeping something like marijuana illegal. 10/17/2007 2:07:07 AM |

I'm not a drug user, but think of the tax dollars legalized pot would bring in.10/17/2007 9:54:52 AM |

You know, I hope they do it. That way, we can observe the results. If it works, then those who argue in favor of drug legalization have a great piece of evidence to point to. If it fails, well... then I suppose the other side will be vindicated in their dire warnings about how drugs should never be legalized. 10/17/2007 11:12:41 AM |

They'll just switch the funds over to something more blatently useless like swat teams and domestic spies designed exclusively for the search and seizure of pictures of guns and cardboard cutouts in the shape of guns 10/18/2007 12:10:27 AM |
