I was at a barber in Garner back in high school and a black women comes in with her young son. The head barber said "Ma'am, I don't know if I'll be able to cut your son's hair. In 20+ years I've never cut that kind of hair and really don't know what to do." He was trying to be as polite as he could about it he still came across as a racist.
My dad also stopped at a barber shop in Durham (yeah, not sure what he was thinking) and it was a black barber shop. He said he didn't want to walk out and look like racist or some shit so he just waited his turn while everyone stared at this old, white, goofy Canadian dude. He gave the barber the normal directions he gives other barbers but they just gave him a buzz cut.

take western southeast past pullen park. it becomes mlk blvd after a ways. you'll pass the turn off for shaw on your left and chavis park. platinum cuts is in the shopping center on the right at the corner of mlk and rock quarry rd., right behind the mlk memorial gardens.

probably your best bet. Put up an add in the classifieds. I had this Puerto Rican dude in my dorm cut my hair, he hooked it up.

^^^I think it's dually a social thing, as well as the barbers happen to specialize on the hair they cut/work with all the time. That doesn't mean a black guy can't cut a white guys hair or vice versa, but if someone cuts 99% white or asian people's hair they will likely be better working with their hair and styles. It reminds me of the people that complain about Man Mur or similar places. If you want to have a longer more styled haircut, don't go to people accustomed to giving shorter more traditional haircuts.

I happen to go to a Korean barber shop myself.

My friend in college who cut my hair happened to be a black guy. he always did a good job, even though i have "white people hair" (like there are just two types of hair... white or black)

^^Isn't that place kind of expensive? I know the whole "you wear it every day, a good haircut is money well spent" argument and I can see the merit in it, but I also really can't see paying much above $20 for a basic haircut. $20 is bad enough.
