******Possible spoiler but not really********

The ending is an angle that I never would have thought about and it pretty original too.

I saw this tonight at MV. I liked it, but one particular part of the graphic novel's storyline was left out, which I would have preferred to be left in. Still, I recommend it.

^^hahah that is the first thing I thought of too when I saw that

I never read the graphic novels so everything was new to me.

It also seemed like they left if open at the end for a sequel. At the end where one of the last survivors said that no one will believe them and they can come back and do it to the other couple of towns over. Are there any sequels in the graphic novels?

Just got back from it. Not as great as I've been hearing in this thread, but worth at least one viewing. I didn't really care too much about any of the characters for some reason, if they got offed I wasn't like "oh shit so-and-so got taken out! I didn't see that coming!" It was your typical barely-recognizable-thing-jumping-out-at-you-from-the-shadows-at-the-last-second scary, which is to say that the movie wasn't scary at all. But it did have its creepy moments, eg the little vampire girl. And the special effects they used for the gore was fantastic. And I have to agree, the ending was definitely original considering the premise of the film.

Spoiler ahead:

So why did the remaining vampires wait for as long as they did to get out of town? It seemed like sunrise was only moments away. Considering that they're out in the middle of nowhere, where are they going to run to? They can't just walk through the wilderness, they'll get baked by the sun. And if they hide out in the town they'd be at a severe disadvantage because they'd have to stay indoors and away from any open windows. It seems to me that they should have left the night before the new dawn, that way they'd have plenty of time to get away.

********spoiler***********

they didn't want to leave early because they knew there were humans left that they had to kill, in order to keep their existence secret.

That's why head bad guy said something like, "it took centuries for them to believe we were only part of their nightmares... we must kill all of them"

I thought it was OK. Typical scary movie. I wont go see it again or buy it though.

I agree the sounds were great. Some of the movements on the roof tops were really creepy.

Spoiler

About burning the town so they think it will be a bad accident? WTF, EVERYONE has thier head chopped off. Im pretty sure a rookie cop could tell something else happened. Although I do like the idea of the vampires covering thier tracks to avoid being "discovered" again.

i dug it. the overhead shot of the town during the intial attack was absolutely dope as fuck. the angle, the sounds, the no music (also liked the no music during the credits)

it just had a creepy feel throughout, and alot of jumpy, though cheap, scares

worth a viewing, would like to see what they had to leave out to get an r rating on an uncut dvd

agreed that was pretty bad ass. I like the movie - nice to see a movie that doesn't give a fuck about getting an R rating in order to make more $$ as pg-13.

I thought it was only alright. The movie was pretty much the main characters running around, then the head vampire says something, then the humans run around some more, and the head vampire says some more shit. I was kinda hoping they'd go more into where the vampires come from. Also I was hoping they'd be old-school, like vulnerable to religion.

Did anybody see the trailer for The Mist? I love the short story, but I'm having my doubts about the movie.

^ In the trailer, when the dude walks out with a rope tied to him, they try to pull him back in and there's lots of blood dripping from it, I was instantly sold on the movie.

And I agree that some more depth into where the vampires came from would have been good. They were halfway interesting, especially whenever the leader was talking about how it took centuries for them to convince humanity that vampires didn't really exist. Their vampire "super powers" were pretty standard, but if they had gone over the history/background, they would have been pretty solid.

The movie only covers a third of the graphic novels, it goes in to a whole hell of a lot more detail especially with the "we need to keep ourselves a secret" thing. I loved the movie but they won't make another. If you liked it at ALL do yourself a favor and buy the comics in the collection form. You won't regret it even if you don't like comic books.

What were the differences between the graphic novel and the movie? What was left out that was important for the storyline?

That pretty much summed up my favorite parts of the movie. I like horror movies that take a minimalistic approach to the ambiance.

******

From what my friend said about the comic, it sounded retarded, and i'm really glad they took the movie in the direction they did.

In the comic the vampires are a secret society with their headquarters based in Louisiana. One group of vampires didn't like how they were existing and decided to fuck shit up in Alaska (the vampires in the movies). The attack went down as per the movie. When the Lord Vampire in Louisiana found out about the attack, he got pissed and went to them in Alaska himself, killed the leader of the rogue group, and told them to burn the town down.

I'm not sure how the main character turning into a vampire to fight came about, but I assume it was the same deal where he killed the Lord vampire to save the girl and kid. At the end when they were at the sunset he collapsed into a cloud of ash and blew away in the wind.......~

Good movie, slow at parts, espeically the beginning, but the fights were badass. I too dug the initial attack on the town.
