The vet gave me the wrong flea medicine. I requested Frontline for dogs weighing 15 pounds....they gave me 23-44 lbs. My dog weighs 15-16 lbs.....will it have any affect on him to use the higher weight dosage? Should I return it?

The only reason I ask is the vet is 20 miles away and I don't have much time when I get off work to go by there before they close and my doggy is scratching

I would say its too high of a dose, but I don't know what it would do. My dog is 40 pounds and they accidentally gave be the 45-whatever pound and I had to bring it back to exchange it. Maybe give her less of it rather than the whole packet?

See, I thought that too...I might just go back by there tomorrow and leave work a little early. The lady was a bitch also, so I kinda didn't want to have to deal with her again.

The concentration between size classes dose not vary, just the amount in each applicator (and the price).

If you do not have time to run back to your vet's office... then apply half of the dose to your dog.

off topic...my dogs right ear stinks like crap...and it was pretty moist in there. there was some brown mud looking stuff in there (but it wasn't mud). i cleaned it out with some bottled ear cleaner stuff, put some ear mite treatment in there (came as part of a two part set with the cleaner), and put some ear powder in to dry it up.

anyone have any idea whats going on in there?

DO NOT GIVE IT TO YOUR DOG.

The weights are specific for a reason, if you give a pet a higher dose than it can handle it can go into seizures, etc, and it can be deadly. Do not risk it.

Possibly an alergy. My dog has had that her entire life and it's an alergy of some sort, we just cant figure out what. A vet can rule out other possibilities and if it's an alergy, they'll want you to do some food trials.

Our cat almost died because of this. It was just below the border between weights so the vet gave it an entire packet for the larger size. The cat had a seizure and would have died had we not taken it back to the vet. I suggest returning it to the vet for new meds.

Sounds like you need a new vet.

You shouldn't dread dealing with anyone in the office.
Add to that that they're either careless or inattentive, and far away - it's time for a new vet.

My dog had the same thing. It was an infection brought on by the fact he had a food allergy. Once we switched to a fish based food it cleared up. Still need to go to the vet, though, to get some ear drops to help clear it up.

What kind of dog is it? A lot of the time, it's a yeast infection that causes the ear to become infected - the tissue will be inflamed, there will be a 'yeasty' smell to it, lots of discharge. A lot of the time, the dog will scratch or make it apparent that the ear is itchy when you clean it. So when you get it checked out by your vet, they'll probably give you meds for it...ear flushes are great (cleaning ears out with cotton balls and listerine, and keeping them dry). But a big thing is considering what food you feed. A lot of the time, ear problems and skin problems are caused by foods that are not good quality and use a lot of corn/wheat germ fillers as a main ingredient. I'm a HUGE proponent for foods that are high protein/low carb. Solid Gold makes good quality food that are holistic and have no corn/gluten added.

Keep that sucker! The concentrations don't differ just the amounts in each capusle. So you basically just got yourself twice the amount of frontline for half the price. The dosage for your dog is .023 oz, the dosage you have is .045 oz. Just split the capsule and save the rest for next month. No need to make the trek back to the vet.
