I started bow hunting this year and happened to get the first and only deer i saw with the bow.

The deer wasn't huge, a 3 pointer, but to have the patience to get that close to shoot one with an arrow is a victory in itself. I shot this deer around early october, just before rifle season came in on Oct. 13. I will definitely be bow hunting again next year.

On to bigger news, i shot an 8 pointer this past weekend, with a 15.5 in wide spread. I was pretty excited about this deer and am in the process of getting him mounted. I happend to shot this deer on the exact same day that i shot my previous big deer, six years ago. Kinda weird. I shot this one running dogs, though this one was not being run by any, out in Eastern NC around New Bern.

i've been kinda obsessed with hunting this season, and i'm glad i finally got a nice one so i can calm down a little.

i didn't get to hunt much last season cause i was trying to build my house, and i would just keep telling myself that i would get to hunt next season. well, i've been just about every evening since it has started...seen a bunch of does, but no sticks, until this weekend.

Deer hunting wasn't good in Halifax county this weekend, so we ended up getting thoroughly liquored up, riding 4 wheelers, acting belligerent, and waking up at 8am in a soybean field. Apparently that's where we decided to sleep.

But I'll kill a few this year I guess...just need some meat for the freezer.

I get to go this weekend for opening day!!! I CAN'T WAIT!! I can't focus on my school work, all I can think about is going hunting. I got a buck last year on opening day, and this year we are hunting a new place, so I just hope it all plays out the way it has been in my head for the past month.

NutGrass, you look really familiar... but I don't think I know you.

Anyway, I just can't wait for Saturday morning!!

One of these years, I want to hunt. Not deer, though.

Turkeys.

God-damned mother-fucking turkeys.

I will have my revenge.

---

Actually, any advice on how to do that? They live on my family's land, I know. What is the law as pertains to me shooting something on my own property, and, if laws apply to it, what are the realistic odds that I'd ever be caught?

^ You can call me and my Dad and I will come and teach you all about it. I hunted them last year for the first time, and never was able to get a shot at one. Scared off a huge tom though. I've learned a lot by that experience though, and I am excited about this year's season. We actually get a short fall season this year, which is also exciting. I can't wait to get my first turkey!

There are still game laws to abide by even if its your property. You have to use a shotgun only - no rifles, have the correct choke in it, have a license, and be doing it during the season. There is no point in hunting if you aren't going to do it legally. The laws apply "fair chase" (as defiined by humans) for a reason, and hunting out of season, with an illegal weapon, etc is taking that fair chase out and it is no longer hunting.

All I've had was 2 days of dove and 2 days of goose (and one day of checking out the new hunting property). I don't have my rifle up here and I have GOT to get some rounds through it before Saturday morning.

Of course you don't have your rifle up here, it's hard to convince people we're not psychopathic. I mean... there was a student expelled from his college because he suggested that students with carry permits should be allowed to carry to protect themselves and others. I think they even posted a guard at the classroom buildings that held his classes. I think University of Utah allows carry and possession of firearms by people.

Well, its hard to carry a concealed rifle But yeah, I know what you mean.

^ Its hard to have that irrational fear when you personally just pulled its heart, lungs, entrails, etc out of its chest a few minutes before. Field dressing FTW

A shotgun is what I would use, because a shotgun is what I have (other than a .22 that exists solely for target practice). I have no intention of doing anything whatsoever to said shotgun, including but not limited to chokes. I have no intention of getting a license. I will hunt in season just because most of the wildlife around here congregates on our property during the season because they know they won't get shot.

Beyond that, this has nothing to do with fairness, or with a chase, or even that much with hunting. This is about revenge.

I cant wait to see what I can do with my new .223. Im used to shooting a 30-06, not a pea shooter like a .223. But I wanted a heavy barrel varmint gun so I bought it on a whim.

I've seen a live albino once before, and I have seen numerous dead ones in Caswell County, but never one while I am out hunting. They're genetic runts and are always small bodied, but they are so pretty and make a nice mount. I've never seen one with a huge rack, I think the biggest I have seen was a really small 4 point. But albino's usually happen in massive deer populations (like Caswell County ) but, not always.
