First problem requires someone who is willing to let me test some pci-e graphics cards and possibly some ddr 400 memory. If you have either just lying around please allow me to just come by to eliminate these as the possible problems with my computer. Second is who does the cheapest ibm repairs in the area (my warranty ran out). Two different computers by the way.

There are actually a few people here on TWW who will repair your computer for you. Avoid Geek Squad at all costs though.

Yeah, I dont feel like paying 60 bucks for them just to tell me whats wrong with it when if I had the parts I could do it myself. Who on here does things here for free? Im sure I'll have to replace something in each comp but I just want to figure out what it is without having to pay more money. For the record my destop turns atarts up but at no point durring the start up does the monitor recognize that its plugged into anything. Ive checked the monitor and it works fine on a different comp. As for the laptop (thinkpad t42p), it sometimes will get to the windows loading screen then go blank with 1 long beep and 2 short beeps. I am just hoping that its just the lcd and nothing more serious although the fan did start acting up before it crapped on me so worst case senario I've got some overheating aftermath.

are you really asking someone to waste their time to do something for free? Nothings for free and certainly not time.

If you dont have anything to suggest besides someone ive already ruled out then go somewhere else. Yeah im asking if anyone will do it for free. If not then Im asking for someone who has the parts so that I can do it. Obviously this forum is a waste of time anyway so nevermind. It never hurts to ask does it?

Sorry im just pissed the hell off right now that both of my computers fucked me within 2 days right when I have alot of shit to do. Not the best week either. Also I came here to ask for a little bit of help. Maybe what I asked was too much but I don't appreciate the porn refference or the follow up response. I came here to ask for help. I just think that if you can't help then dont post or you're just going to piss off the people that asked for it.

oh, but i agree with Golovko in this...no one is going to do anything for you for free unless they know (and like) you (offers to help with apologies that they're not around here anymore are pointless)...you want free help? go make some CE friends and stop bitching...otherwise, there are a number of talented, intelligent, and experienced people on this board that would be more than willing to provide free advice based on any posts you make concerning the actual problem(s) you're having...those same people might very well take a LOOK at your machine and give you their opinions for free...but why would someone "donate" their time (which is also money in a lot of cases) to some random n00b who whines about his computer(s) not working?

this is life, kid, and it's rarely free

i just didn't want to come in here and be all off-topic

and i was totally just joking with you Golovko, no need to take offense, i just have to laugh at some of your recent posts because of how quickly you get riled up and how blunt some of your comments are. i'm not saying i don't agree with you, just commenting on your comments.

and i was commenting on your commenting of my comments.

no offense taken.

My quick comments are due to the fact that I'm at work and in between deployments I refresh TWW and quickly respond before getting back to work.

kage_Spivey, like stated above, if you want help, talk to us and we'll likely help you diagnose your problem. But don't go around expecting and demanding personal attention and support. We don't know who you are and we don't have a vested interest to help someone for free if we don't feel like it.

What else do you need to know? Ive stated exactly what the problem is. I don't understand how that makes me a "kid" (21 now havnt updated in a while) or a "noob". I've been building computers for years now but I rarely keep them for long or have more parts than are being used in the machines that I do use. Not to mention I was a csc major for 2 years. One thing I am not experienced in is laptop repair which is why I asked for a relativly inexpensive place to get things done (warranty has expired). I seriously don't understand the point of trying to insult me when im asking for assistance. I just hope that it somehow makes you feel better about yourself golovko.

haha, CSC major for 2 years. lolz, doesent exactly make you a computer guru.
CSC != ability to fix computers.

send me a pm stating exactly what is wrong and i'll let you know what your best options are, if its fixable i can meet you some place.

oh, and if memory serves correct on the one long 2 short beeps. i think thats just falure to boot due to hardware problems. if your thinkpad has a ATI graphics card thats most likely where your problem lies. i have read that a few of the connections are bad, and have been fixed by resoldering, although im not advising it.

So what does that mean? You took freshman level classes such as English, History, Biology etc and 1 year of 'intro to computers'? Thats not CSC, kid. And as stated above...CSC is not 'fixing computers'

First of all, Welcome to TWW! (aka tdub)

Secondly, I can't help you much with your desktop, but what's wrong with your laptop? I'm assuming it's a ThinkPad. I can help, depending on what you need. If you need hardware, then that may be harder (due to parts), but anything software related I can do.

dude i just tought it was funny when you said i took 2 years as CSC. no offense, it made my day.

i did some research and called some people at IBM, my dad works there. the beeps you say you are having is a hard ware issue and more specific its video, there is a bum connection.

you might think this is funny, but slightly flex the body while booting it up and see if it works, when i say slightly i mean not alot, just enought to put tension on the parts inside. the theory is that this will press that loose connection down, i thought this was crap but after reading on the net some i found out that it actually worked for a few people.

the best i can do for you is find out what it would cost to fix at employee pricing, if you dont mind getting a referbed machine i might be able to do that for free.

I appreciate the constructive replies. Yes its a think pad t42p as I stated in an earlier post. The beep diagnostics are posted online so I already knew what they meant but thanks for making sure. It does have the ati card and I guess I can try slightly putting pressure on it when I get back home. Still doesnt really answer my question as to who can do repairs on laptops in the area (I understand not for free, I always intended on paying for laptop repairs). As for the csc remark: I only used it to imply that I enjoy working with, on , around, inside computers although in hindsight I can see how that could be meaningless. Glad I can make someone laugh I guess. Also can anyone reading just this post please read the rest of my posts before asking more questions?
