If NC State football was #2 in the nation with a hiesmen contender taking the snaps, wouldn't you think we would be making earth shaking noise about it? I mean C'MON!

There has never been such a worst year for BC to be national title contender. Seriously, take note:
PATRIOTS - arguably the most dominant they have ever been... or any other team for that matter
RED SOX - world series

BC Hockey (note: I respect BC Hockey, thus they get to be referred to by their correct name) is bigger than BCU football or bball will ever be. The Beanpot still sells out every game...

Manny Ramirez trying to sell a grill on E-Bay is a bigger story than the Beagles could ever be. Bill Simmons refuses to even mention them... it's hilarious.

I could make a pretty strong argument that PC has a better fanbase in basketball even when they suck...

But great point. College football (and some basketball programs for that matter) do not register on the radar in the North east part of the country, NYC, NJ, and NY State included. Its always been difficult to explain my passion for Wolfpack sports over Christmas to my family compared to how the Jets/Giants/Rangers/Islanders are doing.

I think that if BC was a larger public institution, they'd get more press. Otherwise, with the small alum/fan base (compared to other Universities) which is dwarfed by the fanbases of professional sports in the same place, they get no press.

I'd put it something similar with Northwestern in Chicago.

The entire reason BC was added is because Swofford wanted the Boston TV market. It's pretty funny... to me at least... that the ABC regional game this weekend being shown in Boston is NOT the ACC game, but rather the Big East game.

Actually, as it turned out thanks to the rapid decline of FSU and Miami, that BC has been a pretty solid pickup in both sports. But I assure you Swofford had NO idea that was going to happen and it was all about the TV market.

the Sox will come in about $100 million under what the yanks end up paying for 2007 after you figure in luxury taxes on both clubs

the difference is, boston pays half as much for it's one bust this year (Drew) as you did for just one of the yanks' many busts this year (Clemens)

don't be pissed - Boston is doing what the yanks did so well in the late 90's - get some big names for big bucks, but also develop some minor leaguers into pros...NYY just got away from that in the early 2000's and instead thought they could buy every single position player they needed...it's almost worked a few times, but clearly ARod is the only reason the yanks didn't become the O's this year
